Strolling on Chongqing's Cliff Trail Park with its Designer | Live Replay

By Eiko Cheng |Apr 27,2022

Chongqing- It’s challenging to design and implement infrastructure projects in Chongqing, a mountainous city in southwestern China. With the Yangtze River and the Jialing River separating the city into parts and the enormous height difference between hillsides (which are unlikely to be considered in traditional engineering), designers and architects are constantly contributing their talent to create a more sustainable living environment and diverse area for citizens here. More eco-friendly entertaining spaces have been developed, especially with Chongqing Municipal People's Government's effort to promote an ecological future.

In Dadukou, a district that used to be a heavy industrial area, a fancy trail park was built on the cliff, offering a whole new concept of connecting the old and new in the urban renewal construction. The cliff trail park is one of the main 60 characteristic mountain city trails planned by the government and was designed by the Environment Business Department of T.Y.LIN International ltd, a Chongqing-based global engineering firm. This project stood out from competitors of more than 30 countries and regions worldwide and won the gold award in the international environmental art category of DRIVEN x DESIGN Paris Design Awards 2022. It also became trendy on social media, where locals in Chongqing post their experiences and plans of jogging, walking, and cycling there. The disability-friendly feature of the trail improved the area for more citizens, and the eco-friendly design has left spaces for humans and wild creatures to move and survive in the city.

Eiko Cheng, a reporter of iChongqing, did a live stream along this cliff trail park. Li Yuxin, one of the core designers, and Yang Jing, the manager of the Landscape section of T.Y.LIN international ltd, have joined the show to share their insights on how this park was created as an innovative linkage of high-quality resources for commerce, tourism, residences, and primary forests. In addition, they've talked about how the project's second part will be constructed and what to expect about the sustainability of the trail.
