Chongqing Magician Li Hao’s ‘Fairy Beans’

Chongqing- Recently, at the (online) Asian Preliminary of FISM World Championships of Magic, Li Hao, a chief magician of the Chongqing Acrobatic Art Troupe, made it to the final of the 28th FISM World Championships of Magic in a field of 66 competitors with his close-up program, the "Fairy Beans." He is the only finalist who is from the Chinese mainland this year for the Close-up Act.

Three years ago, Li Hao joined the Chongqing Acrobatic Art Troupe after studying magic for seven years. As a fifth-generation inheritor of Han's Family Trick and a familial inheritor of Chinese traditional magic, it's safe to say he's good at Chinese magic and classic tricks.

Born in 1997, the young man has become a rising star of Chongqing Acrobatic Art Troupe. When he mentioned his prizes, the young man was very calm. "Honestly speaking, there is not too much pressure. I have confidence in myself." Li Hao said.

Li Hao believes that the essence of modern magic and traditional Chinese trick is to show the audience miracle while amusing them. Modern magic focuses more on the magic effect, while Chinese tricks focus more on traditional culture. Finding common ground between the two, he started this magical experiment of blending Chinese and Western, traditional and modern shows.

"There are fewer and fewer magicians performing the traditional Chinese trick 'Fairy Beans'," said Li, "Maybe it's because it is out of date, and young people don't like it anymore. So we need to develop and innovate the traditional Chinese tricks."

On May 5 last year, Li Hao won the Golden Chrysanthemum Award for the show. It's a professional award for literature and art and the highest honor in the Chinese acrobatic industry. In March this year, Li hao advanced to the Asian Preliminary (Close-up Act) of FISM World Championships of Magic and qualified for the finals.

"The biggest feature of the new version of 'Fairy Beans' is its revolutionary innovation. A combination of music, lighting, modern magic tricks and scenes constitute a brand new show." Li Hao introduced.

In July 2022, Li Hao will perform traditional Chinese tricks on the international stage. Let's look forward to what he will bring to us!
