Nightingale Spirit on the Front Line of Anti-epidemic

Chongqing- "One more charge, or I'll retire!" On May 12, on the front line of the anti-epidemic fight in Shanghai, Zhao Qinghua, the winner of the Nightingale Award from Chongqing, said that she would practice the duties and mission of a nurse with what she has learned all her life.

Zhao is a delegate to the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the winner of the 45th Nightingale Award. She said that the fate of young people has always been closely linked with the time, and she will fight together with young nurses on the front line.

After 9 p.m. on April 17, Chongqing medical team took over the No. 3 makeshift hospital in Songjiang District Shanghai and began receiving patients. 

"Classes are suspended, but learning continues." Before departure, Zhao made complete preparations for students' class problems in the makeshift hospital.

The next day, the small class of the makeshift hospital started. Zhao and her team set up a learning bar. Songjiang District provided study facilities like study desks, eye protection lamps, and tablet computer holders.

Zhao also led the establishment of a patient evaluation mechanism, subdivided the elderly and children among the patients in the makeshift hospital, paid attention to psychological problems such as anxiety and insomnia, and launched a specialized nursing group for patients with chronic diseases, a wishing wall, a healthy station, and energy snacks.

From No. 3 makeshift hospital to No. 1 makeshift hospital, Zhao is always full of energy. She suffers from various diseases, but she sticks to the makeshift hospital. The team members advised Zhao to go back to the hotel to rest, but she just found three boxes, put them together, and lay on them.

"They are still children, and I want to fight with them," Zhao regards the makeshift hospital as a classroom for training young nurses.

On Nurses Day, the MV about Chongqing Guard Shanghai performed by the medical team members and patients of the No.2 makeshift hospital was officially released.

"Often to help, always to comfort," Peng Qian, a team member, introduced that their team has successively launched health science classes, fun activities, and barbershops in the makeshift hospital. "These relieve the patient's anxiety and ensure the operation of the makeshift hospital," said Peng.

In particular, traditional Chinese medicine experts, respiratory infection disease experts, and professional nurses gave a daily health class for patients, including first-aid science, COVID-19 science, and chronic disease science.

Liao Linxing, 23, is a new nurse. She was afraid of such close care of highly infectious Omicron patients for the first time. On the first day of nucleic acid sampling in the community, Liao washed her hands more than 500 times until her arms were sore. Liao said that it was the actions of hand-washing and disinfection that made her realize that the responsibility for nursing work is professional and rigorous details.

"I was excited and anxious when I received the order to aid Shanghai." In the past month, Zhao Bi transferred from nucleic acid sampling in the community to nursing in shelters. "The fight against COVID-19 in Shanghai has given me great courage," Zhao said. "After the baptism of fighting the epidemic, I love the profession of nursing even more, and I want to practice the Nightingale spirit and pass it on.
