Hundred-Year-Old Rural Houses Restored as B&B and Museums | Live Replay

Chongqing- China's achievement of rural revitalization strategy has brought remarkable changes to people's life. In a village called Niuhuangcun in Chongqing Municipality, the government has invested in rebuilding the farmers' uninhabitable houses into nice homestays to help them get rid of poverty. This policy implementation improved the locals' living quality, boosted the tourism industry, and energized the area with more caring for the elderly.

In this episode, Eiko from iChongqing starts a trip to this village. This place is now a rural community with an Eastern-Sichuan architectural style. Chongqing was a part of Sichuan Province until 1997, and then it became one of the four municipalities directly under the Central Government. Geographically, culturally, and agriculturally, Chongqing still has a lot in common with Sichuan. The community transformation project has changed the way locals support their lives here. As more entertainment and supporting facilities have been completed in this community, this place became more trendy among tourists. If you don't order in advance, you might not get a chance to wake up in this pretty Eastern-Sichuan-style house on Saturday morning.

The local government has cooperated with the Sichuan Fine Art Institute to create a more cultural consumption scenario in this community. The designers did their research and sorted out the village's history, got to know the production and living conditions of the people, and analyzed the demand for regional cultural tourism consumption. When they started to improve the living environment, they built a connection between promoting the local "propriety culture" and restoring the houses without changing a lot.

Therefore, Eiko visited three museums with different art installations in this village and was amazed by how they were built so dynamically beautiful and perfectly coordinated with the local houses and memories. Besides, Eiko has met a lady who lived here all her life and talked about how this rural community transformation project changed her life.
