Chongqing- Recently, the sport of Frisbee has been getting more and more popular in Chongqing. Passing by the sports field, many people come here to enjoy flying disc games.

A local Frisbee club was established in March this year. From the initial 13 people, the club has developed to more than 2,300 members now, within only three months. People even need to scramble for places to sign up for activities.

Frisbee in Chongqing for More Than 10 Years

On a football field next to the Mixc City in Jiulongpo, a group of young people often come here to practice flying disc. Everyone is a hobbyist, and they will split the bill to book the fields for practice and competition. Among them, Jason, a post-80s generation, is one of the earliest fans of Frisbee in Chongqing. "When I was studying in the north in 2004, I saw foreigners playing the flying disc at the school, so we played together, and I fell in love with the sport."

After returning to this city, Jason looked for local friends to play Frisbee together. Among Frisbee lovers, Yang Jin is recognized as a veteran. Since he first learned about this kind of sport from his friends in Shanghai in 2011, he organized and participated in flying disc games in Chongqing every weekend.

Frisbee has always had a foundation in Chongqing. In April 2021, the Western Ultimate Frisbee League was held in Yudong in the Ba'nan district, with more than 140 players from 8 teams, including Chongqing participating. "Chongqing always has a group of fans of Frisbee, but it was definitely not as popular as it is now," Jason said.

For some flying disc clubs, the main members are post-90s and post-00s, and girls are the majority, which is basically the situation of most Chongqing Frisbee groups. "It is a sport which both boys and girls can play, but when we first played, there were very few female teammates. Now in various teams, girls make up the majority," Jason said.

Sport with strong social interaction

What are the charms of flying discs? Almost everyone mentions this kind of sport and thinks of its social features. But in fact, all sports can be socialized in the process, so why does Frisbee have stronger social attributes?

Jason believes that Frisbee can be learned quickly. No matter whether males, females, children, or seniors, all people can take part in the same competition. It is for everyone. A female player, Zhang Xinwen has a similar view, "It is a very inclusive sport. The game has no physical contact, and it is very safe and enjoyable throughout."

At the same time, the special rules of flying disc games also make the participants' attitude more peaceful on the field. There is no referee in the game, and the players of both sides themselves resolve all disputes and exchanges.

The game has no physical confrontation and requires a peaceful way of playing. Therefore, it is easy for almost every participant to make friends naturally.

Frisbee in schools 

Nowadays, Frisbee classes have been set up in many schools.

Yunchuang Middle School in Liangjiang New Area has opened school-based courses for flying discs since September 2021. The school hopes to use new types of sports (compared with traditional sports classes) to the school to stimulate students' interests in sports. In this way, the school can cultivate the spirit of sports, such as teamwork, courage, solidarity, and never giving up.

According to some news reports, Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Xiamen, and other cities have begun researching on-campus classes for flying discs. Currently, more than 40 schools have set up Frisbee sports classes in Shenzhen. "With the development of the times, students are becoming less and less satisfied with traditional sports. They want something new, so more and more physical education teachers start to cooperate with us," said Wang Nianfei, founder of X-Com Discs (a brand of flying discs in China).
