By YAN DENGMARTINI|Jun 20,2022

Chongqing - The 2022 Italian Art & Museum Documentary Festival opened in Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality on June 16. Seven documentaries about the world's most famous artists and museums will be screened from June 16-26 at CGV Cinemas in Chongqing Raffles City, Chongqing Yuanzhu Branch, and Chongqing U City.

The event was organized by the Consulate General of Italy in Chongqing and the Italian Embassy to China, which is in the 2022 Italy-China Year for Culture and Tourism framework.

The festival was held in Beijing, Wuhan, and Zhengzhou this year, expecting to strengthen the cultural exchange between China and Italy through film exhibition activities. Audiences can watch the precious collections in world-renowned museums, explore the humanistic spirit behind these treasures, and feel the enrichment of cultural life brought by artworks and museums.

Seven documentaries are directed by Italian directors, produced by Italian company Nexo Digital, and presented to a Chinese audience by Beijing ATW Culture Media Co., Ltd. The films are "Botticelli, Florence, and the Medici," "Water Lilies of Monet: The Magic of Water and Light," "Secret Impressionists," "Tutankhamun, the Last Exhibition" "Van Gogh of Wheat Fields and Clouded Skies," "Raphael, the Young Prodigy" and "Hermitage, the Power of Art."

Art museums represent the essence of human culture and wisdom. After watching an exhibition in a museum, people often don't know how to summarize their experience. This shortcoming comes from an incomplete knowledge system or insecurity to appear foolish. In addition to aesthetic intuition, a rich exhibition experience requires expertise and learning. Through the professional perspective of the art museum series of documentaries, the audience can better understand the artist's state of mind, the artwork's background, and the work's connotations.

This year's films have excellent production and diverse perspectives, focusing on showing the charm of art museums to Chinese audiences. It also invites domestic and foreign experts and scholars to discuss the significance of art museum images as a documentary form, the best shooting methods, and cultural communication values.
