Southwest China's Chongqing to Improve Urban Quality

By ZHAN CHEN|Jun 21,2022

Chongqing- In recent years, Chongqing has implemented an urban improvement action plan to build a cleaner and livable city. The measures taken by Chongqing to improve the urban quality have improved their lives.

According to the issued plan of building a National Eco-Garden City in Chongqing in March, the coverage and quality of green space and ecological security in the built-up space of Chongqing's main urban area will be significantly improved by 2025. And there will be a more appropriate layout of green space, better infrastructure, and a more livable environment in the city.

Urban trail

Nowadays, the Beibin Road walking trail has become a good choice for citizens to go for a walk because of its spacious and flat features.

All kinds of flowers and plants are planted along the trail with more than 200 species. Next to the track, there is a bike path, which is very pleasant for the citizens to ride by.

"Because of the undulating terrain in Chongqing, there are few places to ride bicycles, and it is not safe to ride on the motor vehicle lane. Thanks to the special bicycle lane, we can take a walk or ride here to relax," said a citizen.

Garbage sorting

Wang Yuanhui, a garbage sorting instructor of the Casa international community, waits at the community's garbage disposal point at 7:00 every day. At around 7:30, when residents pass the drop-off point, Wang will guide them to sort the garbage.

Wang is a community resident and volunteered as a garbage sorting instructor last year. "In addition to 7 am to 9 am every day, I should check whether the garbage is sorted properly on weekends and holidays," he said.

"After the implementation of garbage classification, the sanitation environment of the community has been greatly improved," he said. "Garbage sorting has become a new fashion for citizens' life in communities."

City park

"After the renovation of Eling Park, everything is worth savoring," said Liu Youkang, a Chongqing citizen. For example, the Lianchi waterfall is a new landscape based on the original cliff, including the water curtain cave next to the waterfall.

On the top of Eling Park is a small square with a wide variety of plants. "This used to be a sloping land, but now it has become a small square, and a new landscape corridor has been built," said Liu.

In addition to the environment, the park is linked with cultural features. The citizen Wang Zhenqun visited the renovated Eling Park and accidentally discovered many old foreign consulates. "I'm a history lover. It is recorded in the book that there were numerous embassies in Chongqing during the Anti-Japanese War, but seeing the old site with my own eyes is still different," he said.

Wang first found the old site of the Australian Embassy and the ancient sites of the Danish and Turkish embassies nearby after the visit. The three old embassies are in harmony with the elegant garden scenery, attracting many tourists to take pictures.
