The Longest Graffiti Street | A Shopping Capital of China①

The Huangjueping Community is located in the Jiulongpo district. In terms of public facilities, it boasted the Chongqing Power Plant, the Railway Bureau, and the Yangtze River Port. In the 1950s, the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute was established here and became an important educational institution in Southwest China.

Huangjueping Graffiti Street is the largest graffiti art space in China. It is located in the Huangjueping Area of Jiulongpo District, with a total length of 1.25 km (0.8 miles) and an area of about 50,000 square meters (12 acres). Huangjueping Graffiti Street is expected to be the longest graffiti street in the world, as it is currently reported to the Guinness Book of World Records. It was launched by Luo Zhongli, president of Sichuan Fine Art Institute. The whole graffiti project was finished by more than 800 painters, students, and artists, using 12.5 tons (2, 7558 lb) of paints, and 30, 000 brushes of various types. A total of 37 buildings were painted with graffiti. After 150 days of arduous work, Huangjueping Graffiti Street was finally completed.

As the site of old industrial enterprises, the area has long had a run-down image among Chongqing residents. This area's latest urban planning target is to build Jiulong Art Peninsula and Chongqing Art Park as part of the "Yangtze River Culture and Art Bay Area." Many art galleries, museums, art bases, cultural and creative parks, ecological parks, and other public cultural service facilities will be built or updated in Huangjueping. Chongqing's Art market will surely see another boost then.
