Large-scale integrated transportation hub

The first railway since the founding of the People's Republic of China, the Chengdu-Chongqing railway, was open to traffic in July 1952. Chongqing Railway Station was also completed and put into use. Seventy years later, Chongqing Railway Station officially stopped passenger transport operations.

The buildings and supporting integrated transportation hubs of Chongqing station will be built into a large-scale, world-class modern hub closely linked by high-speed railways, intercity and urban rail transit, buses, taxis, and airports.

This also means that the reconstructed Chongqing Station will have a larger space, where citizens can take more lines, according to relevant approvals from the National Development and Reform Commission, the National Railway Group, and Chongqing Municipal Government.

Chongqing Railway Station contains one station, three platforms, and seven lines. After reconstruction, it will have two stations, seven platforms, and 14 lines, with a station building of 60,000 square meters. The maximum number of people gathered at the station is 10,000, and as estimated, 2030 will witness 47.2 million arrival and departure passengers annually.

In the future, passengers can take the  Chengdu-Chongqing, Chongqing-Hunan, Chongqing-Wanzhou High-speed Railways, and the reconstructed Chengdu-Chongqing Railway Chongqing Station-Jiangjin Station Section, Chongqing Station-Chongqing North Railway Station, and other trains.

Passengers can also transfer to five railway lines here. After the reconstruction of Chongqing Railway Station, it will be connected with the existed Line 1 and Line 3, as well as Line 18 under construction. Line 26 and 27 will also be introduced into the Chongqing Railway Station hub.

Traffic congestion will be alleviated

After the reconstruction of Chongqing Railway Station, the city's traffic congestion will also be greatly alleviated.

Chongqing will make an overall plan for integrated transport in the Chongqing Railway Station area, strengthening the functions of the Caiyuanba interchange, Huangshaxi interchange, and Caiyuan Road. It will also plan the newly-constructed station north road and the inbound and outbound ramps, forming a railway passenger flow organization mode.

Furthermore, it will add some parking facilities to meet the needs to relieve ground transportation.

Chongqing Railway Station will realize three major positionings after the reconstruction, including an essential integrated public center of the urban development axis of "Two Rivers and Four Banks"; a city-level Integrated Station-City Comprehensive Development area; and a critical window for the dual-core of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle.

The "Two Rivers and Four Banks" core area is enclosed by the Chaotianmen-Jiefangbei area, the Jiangbeizui area, and the Danzishi-Longmenhao area, including the intersection area of the Yangtze River and Jialing River. It covers a total area of about 16.2 square kilometers, of which the land area is about 10 square kilometers.
