One More Representative Office! Chongqing and Kenya Seeking for Deeper Cooperation

Chongqing- On July 8, the Inauguration Ceremony of the Representative Office of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) Chongqing Committee and the China (Chongqing) – Kenya Economic and Trade Conference in Kenya were successfully held both online and offline.

He Yi, Chairman of the CCPIT Chongqing Committee, presented the letter of attorney to the chief representative. Edwin Limo, former counselor of the Kenyan embassy to China, and Xie Guangqi, Chairman of the Kenya Sichuan-Chongqing Chamber of Commerce, inaugurated the representative office of CCPIT Chongqing Committee in Kenya.

It is the second overseas representative office established by CCPIT Chongqing Committee based in China (Kenya) Investment Development Trade Promotion Center, while the first one was established in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in 2020.

As an important node of China's Maritime Silk Road in Africa, Kenya has been increasingly active in bilateral trade and economic cooperation with Chongqing in recent years. In 2021, the total value of imports and exports between Chongqing and Kenya was 524,566 million yuan, an increase of 43.2% year on year.

"There is significant potential for cooperation between Chongqing and Africa due to their complementary advantages. So Chongqing and African countries should deepen and strengthen economic and trade cooperation," said He Yi.

Meanwhile, thanks to the unique geographical location, the radiation effect of Kenya is evident, which enables more Chongqing enterprises and products to enter Africa while more African enterprises and products should enter Chongqing, aiming to benefit two sides.

Livingstone Wahuro, Counselor of the Kenyan Embassy to China, spoke through an online video about the opportunities for economic and trade cooperation between Kenya and Chongqing.  "We will be able to explore more opportunities for collaboration through our in-depth cooperation in areas such as people-to-people exchanges, education, research and development, science and technology, and the digital economy. Kenya and Chongqing should be able to communicate more through regular forums in order to expand economic and trade cooperation," said Wahuro.
