Chongqing- The Chinese automotive and commercial vehicle manufacturer Qingling Motors delivered the first batch of 30 hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) to Minsheng Longtong in Southwest China’s Chongqing on July 28, demonstrating the operation of zero-carbon transportation, said the person in charge of Qingling Motors.
This batch of 30 vehicles is equipped with Bosch 70 KW hydrogen power modules, which can start in a low-temperature environment of minus 30 °C. With these vehicles in operation, they can be used in a variety of scenarios, such as urban distribution and trunk logistics.
Minsheng Longtong provides online settlement, supply chain financial guidance, and the introduction of various types of logistics vehicles for small and medium-sized urban distribution enterprises. The delivery of FCEVs also marks the launch of the Chongqing Hydrogen Energy Industry Innovation Alliance.
Qingling’s 18-ton FCEV was displayed at the event with the Bosch 134KW hydrogen power module, which has a maximum system efficiency of 63%. It can be flexibly applied to 18-ton, 25-ton logistics, municipal vehicles, 31-ton concrete mixing and dump trucks, and 49-ton short-haul transport vehicles.
As a leading logistics enterprise, Minsheng Logistics and Takitong Technology use Chongqing’s resource advantages as the logistics distribution area and industry gathering area to explore unique low-carbon green application routes and build a guarantee system of FCEVs after-sales service. It is a pioneering model for Chongqing to promote the application of the hydrogen energy industry in logistics and other scenarios.
Next, four companies, Minsheng Logistics, Takitong Technology, Qingling Motors, and Bosch, will cooperate to put hundreds of FCEVs into demonstrating applications and build a business model innovation platform. The cooperation will establish the demonstrating application of FCEVs in Chongqing and help the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing Hydrogen Corridor.
They will focus on urban distribution logistics and provide rental services of green and zero-carbon vehicles for logistics companies in Chengdu and Chongqing and customers with transportation needs. “Qingling Motors expects to put more than 3,000 hydrogen-powered vehicles across China in the next three years, reducing carbon emissions by 80,000 tons, equivalent to planting nearly 3,000 acres of trees,” said a company representative.
The Chongqing Hydrogen Energy Industry Innovation Alliance, which was officially launched during the event, aims to carry out technical exchanges, research and development (R&D) innovation, and operation promotion in the hydrogen energy sector, promote the infrastructure construction of hydrogen energy facilities and standards of the hydrogen energy industry.
Thus the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle and the Chengdu-Chongqing city cluster for FCEVs demonstration will be developed, and a green and low-carbon transportation system based on hydrogen energy will be built in China.
So far, Qingling Motors has cooperated with Bosch, Chongqing University, China Automobile Engineering Research Institute, and other domestic and foreign research institutes, colleges, universities, and technology enterprises to promote hydrogen powertrains and vehicle R&D.
For instance, with the participation of Sichuan University and the Vision Synthesis Laboratory, the alliance will further boost the integrated growth of hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles with energy, information, and communications to accelerate the creation of a technological highland for hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles.
In addition, Qingling Motors and supply chain companies such as Sinopec and PetroChina have built four hydrogen refueling stations in some districts in Chongqing.
According to the industrial planning of Chengdu and Chongqing, a hydrogen energy infrastructure network mainly based on green hydrogen will be built around the dual centers and important node cities. A total of 70 hydrogen refueling stations will be made by 2025.
