A "Smart Journey" of Laptop Accessories Container in China

By ZHAN CHENICHONGQING|Aug 20,2022

Chongqing- More than 100 containers were on board after traveling across the ocean for nearly two months, including more than ten kinds of goods; one was loaded with notebook accessories ordered by Pegatron Technology (Chongqing) Co., Ltd. (Pegatron Technology). After reloading at Shanghai Port, this European cargo ship arrived at Chongqing Guoyuan Port at 9:00 am on August 7.

Dropping containers with centimeter-level accuracy

Remotely drop to a designated location with centimeter-level accuracy. At 1:00 pm on August 7, the laptop accessories container was unloaded onto the truck and then towed to the Guoyuan Port terminal yard. In the control room of the field bridge, the staff carried out automated remote handling of the laptop accessories container.

Upon selecting the operation instruction on the screen, the yard bridge’s truck, trolley, and lifting equipment will automatically move to the position and height of the container truck of laptop accessories. The container could be taken from the truck and moved to the stacking position with the push of a button. When the driver pressed the button, the notebook accessories container was accurately placed in its designated place after fine-tuning the spreader’s position with the joystick handle.

“Now, the accuracy of container lifting is down to the centimeter range,” said the person in charge.

In the past, it depended solely on the driver’s skills and even their eyesight. With the intelligent remote control system, the driver can now align the container with precision from tens of meters away while improving his accuracy by using close-up images.

The first large-scale container inspection system

When the goods arrived in Chongqing, Pegatron Technology submitted customs declaration procedures to Chongqing Customs District.

At 9 am the following day, the laptop accessories were transported to the customs inspection site at Guoyuan Port, where a “small house” was installed so the contents could be checked without opening the container.

The “small house” named “H986” is the first large-scale container inspection system implemented by Chongqing Customs District in 2019 and the country’s first new-generation dual-energy, dual-view, and dual-accelerator rapid inspection system. Many customs staff call it the “electronic eye.”

The items in the container are displayed on the screen using radiation imaging technology. Thus, customs officials can perform non-intrusive inspections of goods, empty containers, container trucks, or container interlayers without opening the container to find hidden compartments and contraband.

H986 enabled Chongqing customs staff to avoid the process of unpacking and repacking. The detection time for a single container is up to 10 minutes, and the clearance time for the goods is significantly shortened. With the H986 system, Guoyuan Port can inspect 200 20-foot containers per hour, which is 20 times more efficient than before.

Over 90% of the logistics links realize unmanned transportation

At 10:00 am on August 8, the notebook accessories container was delivered to the warehouse of the unmanned supply chain collaboration platform built by the neighborhood, Chongqing Feiliks Supply Chain Management Co., Ltd.

By 2020, the two companies agreed to store laptop accessories ordered by Pegatron on the unmanned supply chain collaboration platform and dispatch them when needed.

At 10:30 am, Pegatron Technology issued the transportation order for this batch of laptop accessories. After completing the out-of-warehouse scan, the staff places the laptop accessories on the AGV shelves.

Afterward, the AGV sends them to the unmanned vehicle, which drives them to Pegatron along the set route, to Pegatron’s warehouse, and then distributes them to various production workshops.

Shipping laptop accessories from the warehouse to the production line takes about an hour. Only the two links of cargo sorting and unmanned vehicle loading and unloading racks require manual labor.

“The storage capacity of the platform automated warehouse is three times that of the traditional warehouse,” said a representative from Feiliks. “The warehousing speed is three times, the delivery speed is 2.5 times, and the receiving and shipping accuracy rate is 100%.”

As he continued, the warehouse and logistics division has achieved unmanned transportation for more than 90% of the links.
