A nationwide 5G infrastructure construction program is underway in China. Two weeks ago, Beijing announced that it now has 27 5G base stations per 10 thousand residents.

A month ago, Jiefang Daily reported that this number was 22.4 per 10 thousand people in the east coast metropolis of Shanghai.

According to the speaker of the Communication Administrations, the construction of the 5G network in Chongqing ranks first in western China.

A number of measures have been taken by the municipal administration to develop 5G applications. An action plan to boost 5G application capability in the city was jointly issued by 12 departments last year. The city has implemented more than 200 joint 5G applications and built 32 5G virtual private networks.

Yan Hanbing, Vice Director of the Communication Administration, said that to improve Chongqing's 5G network construction, the city needs to lay out more policies around problems like power security and land supply.

Furthermore, Yan said, the government will continue to assist in promoting the application of 5G technology in industries.
