Chongqing – On March 1, 2022, the Chongqing Municipal Household Waste Management Rules were enacted. It is a systematic project to guide and standardize the public to sort domestic garbage. Chongqing has devised a new path to thoroughly implement household waste classification by constructing waste-sorting themed parks and combining the rules with performances.
Sixian Park is the first garbage classification theme park in Chongqing High-tech Zone. Originally it was a piece of wasteland, but some unique signs and sketches about garbage classification made it an urban green space.
The park added some garbage classification elements based on landscape planning, allowing residents to grasp garbage classification-related knowledge while enjoying leisure and entertainment.
A few days ago, several contestants at the Minqing Teahouse in Zouma Town vividly introduced the local story of garbage sorting while telling Zouma Folk Story, a national intangible cultural heritage project. These stories will be selected and filmed into videos to participate in the Chongqing municipal micro-content video competition on garbage sorting.
Volunteers from Huama Community of Huxi Street in the High-tech Zone gathered to publicize waste classification during the Mid-Autumn Festival. They distributed garbage sorting tips and promotional materials to residents, answering relative questions. Meanwhile, children also learned about garbage classification in positive interaction.
As required by policy, the whole society should participate in the household waste classification, which is regarded as a critical carrier to strengthen grass-roots governance, starting from the campus. The creation of green schools relies on in-depth publicity and education on waste classification, such as classroom teaching, campus culture, social practice, and so on.
