Chengdu-Chongqing Electronic Information Represents China’s Highest Manufacturing Level

Chongqing- The Chengdu-Chongqing electronic information advanced manufacturing cluster was selected in the list of 45 national advanced manufacturing clusters published by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology recently.

Representing the highest manufacturing level in China, the list shows four key regions with 30 advanced manufacturing clusters in regions of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, Yangtze River Delta, Pearl River Delta, and Chengdu-Chongqing.

The key to the future development of the Chengdu-Chongqing electronic information advanced manufacturing cluster is to utilize policy advantages of these two national central cities and gather concentrated resource elements, experts said.

Two-thirds of the world's iPads

The electronic information industry is the pillar industry with the most vital innovation strength, industrial foundation, and the largest contribution to economic growth in Sichuan and Chongqing. The scale of this industry exceeds 1.5 trillion yuan, accounting for nearly 10% of the country's total.

Data shows two-thirds of the world's iPads, 50% of laptops, and 10% of smartphones are made in Chengdu and Chongqing. The global market share of intelligent projection equipment exceeds 15%, making it one of the world's top 10 electronic information manufacturing centers.

Another advantage of Chengdu and Chongqing lies in its early introduction of leading enterprises like Huawei, which drives the settlement of a number of supporting enterprises with national influence.

Meanwhile, Sichuan and Chongqing conducted cooperation closely in the related information industry. For instance, Sichuan Tianfu New Area and Chongqing Liangjiang New Area have jointly established an electronic information industry alliance to integrate the advantageous resources of both sides comprehensively.

Dynamic integrated circuit industry ecosystem

With a solid manufacturing foundation, Chongqing should focus on emerging industries such as integrated circuits, new displays, and intelligent terminals, working with Sichuan to jointly build an electronic information industry corridor, said Wang Wenwen, associate researcher at the Chongqing Comprehensive Economic Research Institute

Wang suggested that Sichuan and Chongqing should highlight their respective characteristics to create a dynamic integrated circuit industry ecosystem and improve the supporting rate and new display industries' level.

For example, both places can work on the intelligent terminal industrial clusters and establish a complete industrial ecology covering chip, device, complete machine, and system applications.

Differentiated development of the software industry will be promoted with local features. The chain supplement and extension will be constantly strengthened to create an electronic information industry cluster with international competitiveness.
