Chongqing- A press conference was held on December 29, demonstrating the achievements of the national pilot area construction of digital villages in Yubei District, Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality.

Yubei 's approach to constructing digital villages 

With Yubei District being selected as the first batch of national digital village pilot areas in October 2020, it aims to achieve the integrated development of the digital foundation, digital industry, and digital governance through overall planning, classified promotion, co-governance, and sharing. 

Yubei achieved the Second-best Performance in China and the First-best Performance in the entire city for the staged assessment in 2021.

Liao Hongjun, deputy secretary of the Communist Party of China Yubei District Committee and director of the Yubei District People's Government, emphasized the importance of the construction of a digital village in building a "Smart Yubei" and a strategy for rural revitalization in the district. "We have explored a lot to promote the digital transformation of rural production, ecology, and living conditions in Yubei," Liao said.

According to Liao, there are three effective measures to stimulate the construction of digital villages in the Yubei District.

To begin with, the foundation for digital villages must be strengthened by improving infrastructure, promoting resource integration, and optimizing information services. 

Secondly, the focus should be on digital empowerment to boost the rural economy, including constructing a pilot project, completing the industrial chain, and developing entrepreneurship and innovation.

Thirdly, improving rural governance through integrating digital governance, including accelerating the digital construction of rural government affairs, strengthening security control, and promoting entrepreneurship and innovation.

Over 70% popularity rate of rural Internet 

Currently, about 1,700 5G base stations, more than 9,200 kilometers of roads for communication poles, about 4,500 kilometers of communications pipelines, and eight Internet towns have been built in Yubei rural areas to achieve complete coverage of optical fibers, 4G communication networks, and radio and TV networks in key rural residential gathering areas. 

By 2025, Yubei's rural Internet popularity rate will exceed 70%, its digital level of agricultural production will reach more than 35%, and its online retail sales of agricultural products will surpass 400 million yuan (about 57.5 million dollars).

With the construction of digital villages, the level of intelligence in education, medical care, and livelihood protection will be enhanced so that people will have a greater sense of achievement, well-being, and security.
