Chongqing - By establishing several modern industrial systems and high-level innovation platforms, the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle in southwestern China generated a regional GDP of 5.52 trillion yuan (about USD 801.5 billion) in the first three months of 2022, an increase of 2.2% over the same period in 2017.

Ranks among World's Top Ten and Third in China

Chengdu and Chongqing currently produce 66% of the world's iPads, 50% of laptops, and 10% of smartphones manufactured by electronic information advanced manufacturing clusters. 

These products have enabled Chengdu and Chongqing to become the third and tenth electronic information manufacturing clusters in mainland China and the world, respectively.

In addition, Chengdu and Chongqing built an industrial chain supply and demand information platform, attracting foreign investment and constructing a cooperation park to promote the transformation and upgrading of the automotive industry.

As shown by statistics, Chengdu and Chongqing's automotive industries demonstrated strong resilience in industrial chain cooperation, producing 1.393 million vehicles, a 6.7% increase over last year, higher than the national average of 8.8% in the first half of 2022.

The first batch of national pilot applications for new energy vehicle battery swap modes, which focus on promoting industrial transformation and upgrading, includes Chongqing and Yibin, a city in southeastern Sichuan.

Chengdu and Chongqing have built 11 cross-provincial electricity corridors, which are battery charging stations in the service areas of the Chengdu-Chongqing Expressway and 24 hydrogen refueling stations. 

Both the electronic information and automotive industries are pillar industries in Chengdu and Chongqing, laying the foundation for a modern industrial system and high-quality economic development of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle.

Experimentation is highly related to people's lives

Between the counties of Chengdu and Chongqing, enterprises and scientific research institutes aim to build a scientific research platform.

In Chongqing Liangjiang New Area and Chengdu Tianfu New Area, major innovation platforms as well as research and development platforms are being jointly constructed.

This involves the Distributed Radar Astronomical Measurement Instrument Verification Test Site from the Beijing Institute of Technology Chongqing Innovation Center, as well as the upcoming Tianfu Innovation Equipment Research Institute.

Xiang Yin, an associate researcher at the Beijing Institute of Technology Chongqing Innovation Center, introduced that the first phase of the Distributed Radar Astroimaging Measuring Instrument Verification Test Site plans to build four 16-meter caliber radars to verify the technical feasibility, realize three-dimensional imaging of the moon and accumulate its construction and use experience.

Chengdu and Chongqing jointly built a high-level innovation platform highly related to citizens' lives shoots, known as the "king of bamboo shoots." Large-scale planting is not feasible due to the growing environment's high altitude and low yield.

Ding Xianping, an expert in eugenic genetics at Sichuan University, established research on characteristic biological resources in Nanchuan, Chongqing, and used the Chengdu-Chongqing Key Laboratory of Joint Construction to domesticate square bamboo at low altitudes by using modern biotechnology such as molecular genetic breeding, so that more areas in Chengdu and Chongqing were planted with square bamboo shoots.

Since 2022, Chengdu and Chongqing have accelerated the pace of construction and identified five key laboratories, including specialty foods, the scientific and technological innovation of Chinese pickles, innovation and utilization of native plant germplasm, co-evolution of paleontology and paleoenvironment, and integrated diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases by traditional Chinese and Western medicine.
