Chongqing- Hongchiba Scenic Area, located at over 2000 meters elevation in Wuxi County's Daba mountain range, opened its annual snow festival for the second winter tourism season on December 29, 2022, with an exuberant ceremony.

With health-related travel restrictions now lifted nationwide, organizers are eager to attract many tourists to the picturesque area, where tourists can enjoy various activities, such as skiing, snowmobiling, and horseback riding. Furthermore, the resort offers ski equipment rental, qualified instructors are on hand to teach beginners, and the main slopes are suitable for skiers of all ages and levels.

The high elevation means that natural snowfalls came each winter season and were a few inches deep on the day the opening ceremony was held. At the same time, the modern road system leading from the county seat to Hongchiba is cleared every day so that tourists can make their way safely to the resort in private vehicles. 

Conversely, this picturesque scenic area with an impressive mountain backdrop is also a popular summer getaway. Tourists can escape the seasonal heat, enjoy average temperatures around 17 degrees Celsius, and admire the Cloudline Flower Sea and splendid grasslands on the mountain plateau.

To set the Hongchiba Snow Festival aside from competing resorts elsewhere, organizers have combined the quality snow festival with local culinary specialties available on the ski slopes. Whenever visitors desire a bite, they can sit around a charcoal stove and enjoy the heartwarming and tasty dishes of Chongqing hotpot in the form of radish, mutton stew, and the famous Wuxi grilled fish, cooked up fresh by well-known inheritors of this gastronomic tradition.

Hongchiba is located around 80 kilometers from the county seat of Wuxi and takes under two hours by car, with gorgeous scenery along the way. Tourists wishing to stay overnight have modern accommodation options like wooden cabins and many guesthouses offering specialty dishes and entertainment.

Winter activities will continue towards the end of March 2023, including ski courses for youngsters, photography competitions, and fashion events in traditional Chinese-style clothing known as Hanfu.
