Chongqing- On January 10, a press conference for the list of investment opportunities for Chongqing Bishan District was held based on its achievements in green and ecological development.

Bishan strives to construct an ecological city

Located in the west of Chongqing Municipality, Southwest China, Bishan District covers an area of 915 square kilometers, with six subdistricts and nine towns. 

In recent years, Bishan District has aimed for both green development and ecological and environmental protection, approaching constructing a city for “ecological beauty, industrial prosperity.”

“Through a series of remediation measures, Bishan District’s ecological environment has been obviously improved. It ranked the top two in the city’s public ecological environment satisfaction assessment for two years, becoming the first batch of ‘national ecological civilization construction demonstration zone,’” said Jiang Zhibin, Deputy Secretary of the Communist Party of China Bishan District Committee and head of the People’s Government of Bishan District.

The district is now home to more than 40 parks and 68 leisure plazas, and its green area of parks in the urban built-up area has reached 8.76 million square meters.

At the same time, the water environment quality of Bishan District has been significantly improved, especially the water quality of rivers, reservoirs, and ponds.

Green development drives investment opportunities

Local authorities told at the press conference that a fine ecological environment brings opportunities for Bishan District to achieve high-quality development.

Those opportunities involve attracting high-quality projects in Bishan District. This consists in creating “one district with multiple parks” through Western (Chongqing) Science City, grabbing the development opportunity of China-Singapore(Chongqing) Science and Technology City and creating high-quality life demonstration areas, and promoting investment in Bishan District’s agricultural tourism industry.

In 2022, 115 projects with a total investment of 73.5 billion yuan  (10.85 billion U.S. dollars) have been signed to settle in Bishan District, and strategic emerging industry projects account for 42%, according to the conference.

At the same time, Bishan District is developing its research institute economy and high-tech industry. Its green industry has become the leading industry in this region. 

“On the one hand, Bishan District focuses on transforming and upgrading traditional industries to promote the high-end, intelligent, and green development of the automobile, motorcycle, electronics, and other advantageous industries,” said Jiang. “On the other hand, it focuses on the cultivation of strategic emerging industries and industrial clusters such as new energy & intelligent networked vehicles, electronic information, intelligent equipment, health care industry, and the digital economy.”

In addition, scientific and technological innovation policy, talent support, tax, and financial services will be offered in Bishan District to further enhance the investment attraction for major projects and companies.
