Chongqing Breaks Transportation Institutional Barriers for Import and Export Enterprises

By YUTING CHEN|Jan 21,2023

Chongqing - "We will establish enterprise and problem databases, giving full play to Chongqing's role as a large corridor to go abroad and helping import and export enterprises solve logistics problems," said Wang Jing, deputy director of the Port and Logistics Office of Chongqing Municipal People's Government.

Recently, nearly 20 persons responsible for local import and export enterprises gathered together with the Chongqing Port and Logistics Office and Chongqing Municipal Commission of Economic and Information Technology, representatives of corridor operation platforms, and industry associations discussed the difficulties and problems in relying on the overseas corridor to carry out import and export, providing suggestions for the further development of Chongqing's outbound corridor.

Mersen, a French-funded enterprise engaged in graphite material production, has a branch in Chongqing. Their concern is about importing raw materials through river and sea coordinated transport, hoping to have a more stable and efficient logistics solution.

Kang Jian, director of the water transportation and logistics department, suggested the Shanghai-Chongqing direct express line for Mersen. The New Land-Sea Corridor Operation Co., Ltd. said they could customize a rail-sea intermodal logistics solution from Qinzhou Port to Chongqing.

According to OPPO Chongqing, one of the world's most essential smartphone producers in China said that in recent years, mobile phone exports and trade volume have been increasing, but mobile phone products cannot be transported by rail, so they cannot benefit from the logistic advantages brought by China Railway Express (Chongqing) to Europe for now.

Chongqing BOE Optoelectronics Technology Co., Ltd. asked almost the same question. Their electronic products are mainly exported to Europe, so railway transportation is their urgent need.

Peng Qian, director of the railway logistics department, said that the China Railway Express (Chongqing) has realized the export of railway transportation for laptops and new energy vehicles and will open to more related exports at the request of enterprises in the future.

Chongqing Port and Logistics Office will also actively coordinate with China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. to break the existing institutional barriers as soon as possible.

Data showed that in 2022, more than 2,500 rail-sea intermodal trains were operated in the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, a year-on-year increase of 24%, realizing the "weekly shift" of the China-Laos train. The China-Myanmar freight train was newly opened, and the corridor network has covered 393 ports in 118 countries and regions.

China Railway Express (Chengdu-Chongqing) operated more than 5,000 trains throughout the year, a year-on-year increase of 12%.

The number of international routes has been restored to 14, and two new all-cargo routes, including New Delhi and Mumbai, have been opened.

Furthermore, 1,200 direct express lines from Shanghai and Chongqing have consolidated Chongqing's position as the most prominent hub port in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River.
