Chongqing - During the Spring Festival holiday, Chongqing ranks among China's most popular tourist destinations, according to the data released by major online travel agencies in China.

Data from Fliggy shows that domestic long-distance travel orders had surged more than 500 percent yearly during the Spring Festival. The most popular destinations are Chengdu, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Beijing, and Chongqing.

The popular destinations for hotel reservations are Xi'an, Sanya, Chengdu, Chongqing, Shanghai, Changsha, Kunming, Guangzhou, Nanning, and Shenzhen during the Spring Festival, according to Tongcheng Travel.

According to data released by Ctrip, the overall travel orders for Chongqing during Spring Festival had increased by 66 percent year-on-year, and ticket orders had grown by 27 percent year-on-year. The inter-provincial travel orders accounted for 66 percent of the total. The top five popular scenic spots in Chongqing are Hongyadong Folk Customs Area, Yangtze River Cableway, Dazu Rock Carvings, Jinfo Mountain, and Fairy Mountain National Forest Park.

As tourists thronged to popular tourist destinations and restaurants in Chongqing, the city showed its capability to receive many tourists.

Hua Chunying, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, gave Chongqing a thumbs-up on Twitter, "SW China's Chongqing is truly visitors friendly. Teeming with tourists during the Spring Festival holiday, the city stopped traffic on several roads and bridges to give a better experience of sightseeing and picture-taking."

Data from Meituan, an on-demand service platform, showed that, in the first six days of the holiday, the average daily consumption has increased by 66 percent compared with the Spring Festival in 2019. The consumption in Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Chongqing, and Guangzhou ranks among the top in the country. 

The proportion of nighttime consumption in the country reached 49%, an increase of 13 percent over the same period last year. Guangzhou, Chengdu, Chongqing, Hangzhou, and Xiamen have the highest search interest for "nighttime entertainment."

In addition, outbound travel bookings posted a surge of 640 percent year-on-year during the holiday, according to online travel agency Trip.com Group in a report. A portion of Chongqing residents opted to spend the Spring Festival overseas. The outbound travel orders of Chongqing during the Spring Festival had increased by 112 percent year-on-year.
