Chongqing - Explaining the 2023 Two Sessions Buzzword, reading public opinions and expectations, and understanding the demands of the new era, you are watching Buzzword: 2023 Two Sessions. This is Bridget from Bridging News.

The buzzword of the day is “Green Development”.

The establishment of the "environment resources sector" set by the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) is a major adjustment of the CPPCC National Committee in the past 30 years. During the ongoing two sessions, "green development" has become a hot topic of discussion among the legislators and political advisors.

On March 11, the closing meeting of the first session of the 14th National Committee of the CPPCC was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Ahead of the closing meeting, political advisors took questions at “Members’ Corridor”. Song Hailiang, a member of the 14th National Committee of the CPPCC, also the board chairman of State-owned China Energy Engineering Group Corporation Limited, said that the integrated development of the energy sector will be the main direction and crucial path for China's green and low-carbon transition.

China's renewable energy installed capacity exceeded that of coal-fired power plants for the first time in history last year, accounting for 47.3 percent of the country’s total capacity. China's total power generation in 2022 exceeded 2.7 trillion kWh, equivalent to the total electricity consumption of the 27 countries of the European Union in 2021.

China is currently promoting green and low-carbon growth via cross-industry integration, integration within industrial chains, integrated development of resources, and regional and international cooperation.

According to the Government Work Report, upholding the idea that lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets, China has managed to strike a balance between development and conservation over the past five years and will make consistent efforts to further promote green transition, advance energy conservation and carbon reduction in key areas, and continue working to keep our skies blue, waters clear, and lands clean.
