Chongqing - On March 13, the 2023 training evaluation conference of Chongqing rural school children's palaces was held in Dazu District, Chongqing, China.

Several exhibitions were set up in the playground of the Third Primary School in Dazu to showcase the projects of students from 18 rural school children’s palaces in Dazu District, such as Dazu's carp lantern and sugar painting.

Students of the Third Primary School gave an impressive performance of the carp lantern of Dazu. It's a unique folk custom that was introduced to the school as part of Dazu's intangible cultural heritage in 2013. The carp lantern imitates the various natural habits and forms of carp, conveying people's hopes for auspiciousness and abundance.

"In the process of learning how to make the carp lantern and performing with my classmates, I can sense the strength of unity and the satisfaction of accomplishing tasks on our own," said Li Xinyue, a sixth-grade member of the carp lantern art club at the school.

Chongqing has built 790 rural school children's palaces and plans to build 35 new ones this year. The promotion of the rural school children's palaces has facilitated effective connections between school, family and social education, providing an important platform for rural children to develop their interests and expand their knowledge.
