Chongqing - Baidu Wenxin Yiyin, also known as ERNIE Bot, China's version of ChatGPT, was launched on August 16 with Robin Li, the founder of Baidu, providing its product introduction. 

ERNIE Bot will likely have various functions such as literary creation, business copywriting, mathematical and logical calculation, Chinese comprehension, and multimodal generation.

According to Li, Baidu is the first giant internet company to create a ChatGPT product worldwide, and its customers and partners eagerly anticipate the introduction of such technology. 

OpenAI also released its multimodal pre-trained big model GPT-4 on the same day. GPT-4 can recognize and understand images, process 25,000 words, and provide accurate answers while improving creative writing capabilities.

Although ERNIE Bot is the leading product in China, compared to ChatGPT, ERNIE Bot is yet to be available to the public, representing the technology gap between Chinese companies and OpenAI to some extent.

Gaoxin Bo, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and President of Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications (CQUPT), suggested accelerating support for the research and development of localized ChatGPT at this year's national two sessions. 

These years, CQUPT has undertaken numerous major national scientific and technological tasks in intelligent computing, 5G, arithmetic networks, all-optical networks, and industrial Internet technologies, resulting in outstanding international and domestic research results.

According to Gao, all these achievements come from the original innovation capability in science and innovation research and the reserve of research talents in recent years, and China's ChatGPT's future may rely on it. 

Gao believes that universities should strengthen the construction of basic disciplines and interdisciplinary studies, and use the talent training mode to promote the integration of industry and education talent training and the collaborative development of schools and regions, enabling the rapid growth of science and technology innovation talents.

For example, CQUPT has opened industrial technology research institutes in Western (Chongqing) Science City and other locations to cultivate real-world innovative and entrepreneurial technical talents. 

The university is also preparing to build a provincial ministry state key laboratory of big data intelligent computing to strengthen the construction of disciplinary platforms in big data and artificial intelligence.

Gao emphasizes the need to change the mode of talent training and align it with the country's and society's needs is essential.

It involves organized talent training, scientific research, social services, promoting industry and education talent training integration, and the collaborative development of schools and local regions. This ensures that students' learning and entrepreneurship are practical.
