Chongqing - On March 23, the Chongqing stop of the 2023 edition of the Italian Design Day was held at the Art Museum of the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute (SFAI), aiming to promote high-quality Italian design and business opportunities.
Over the past six editions (2017-2022), Italian Design Day has organized 1,150 events featuring more than 470 designers, architects, entrepreneurs, academics, and specialized journalists. They have promoted innovation, industry, and the "know-how" of Italy while interacting with creative, academic, and business communities in host countries.
The theme for the 2023 edition of Italian Design Day is "The Quality That Lights Up: The Energy of Design for People and Environment." The event is expected to address several essential aspects of Italian design, including quality as a connector throughout the entire supply chain, energy as a fundamental element of the production process, the central role of people in conceiving and developing innovative ideas, and combining functionality and well-being with sustainability and respect for the environment.
Consul General of Italy in Chongqing, Guido Bilancini, stated in his welcome speech, "The Design Day aims to promote one of the most distinctive symbols of Made in Italy abroad and strengthen the internationalization process of the Italian production system." Bilancini also highlighted Italy's role as a privileged partner of Chongqing and China in sustainable and quality design.
The theme of sustainability is central to the candidacy of Rome as the host city for Expo 2030," stated Bilancini. He also invited all attendees to visit the upcoming Milan Furniture Fair from April 18 to 23, as well as the International Lighting Exhibition, Euroluce.
The second part of the conference featured keynote speeches from Mario Cucinella and Professor Wang Liduan of SFAI, who are the design ambassadors for the 2023 Italian Global Design Day in Beijing and Chongqing, respectively, and spoke on this year's theme.
Lu Xi, Dean of the Design Department at SFAI, led a roundtable discussion during the conference. The discussion featured industry experts such as Luca Tarsetti, Regional Director APAC of iGuzzini, Matteo Fioravanti, Design Director of Technicon Design, Jiang Jinchen, Deputy Dean of the Design Department at SFAI; and Zhou Bo, Professor of the Design Department at SFAI. They shared their insights on various aspects of the design industry.
The event attracted a wide range of professional audiences from the design field, mainly design experts, teachers, students, and professionals in the industry.
During the event, the exhibition "Light On MADE in ITALY" and a small showcase of iGuzzini design products, an Italian world leader in the field of architectural lighting, were also set up.
The event was organized by the Consulate General of Italy in Chongqing, the Italian Chamber of Commerce in China, and the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute.
