Chongqing - "The Chinese solution of Intelligent Connected Vehicles (ICVs) is a new technological revolution in transportation, and it is the main advantageous discipline of Chongqing Jiaotong University," said Huang Chengfeng, Vice President of Chongqing Jiaotong University. "We should take the lead in constructing and developing national and local transportation."

In order to further boost Chongqing's ICV industry and intelligent transportation, Chongqing Jiaotong University and the Western China Science City Innovation Center of Intelligent and Connected Vehicles (WICVs) signed an industry-university-research strategic cooperation agreement on March 29.

Both parties will collaborate between schools and enterprises to support the ICV industry and cultivate independent innovation talents for intelligent transportation.

ICV requires multi-dimensional professional backgrounds

ICV is an emerging industry that requires interdisciplinary integration and innovation, demanding professionals with multi-dimensional backgrounds in research and development (R&D) across various fields, such as vehicles, machinery, information and communication, computers, electricity, and software.

Experts suggest that the current talent pool does not match the high demand for multi-talented professionals in the ICV industry.

According to the Auto Talents Committee of China Talents Society, it is estimated that by 2025, there will be a net shortage of around 37,000 professionals in China's ICV industry, while the number of undergraduates in colleges and universities involved in ICV will be only 7,300.

Potential to further promote modern city development

Relying on their respective strengths, the agreement reached between Chongqing Jiaotong University and WICV covers a range of areas, including innovative talent training, high-level scientific and technological innovation, intelligent network demonstration base construction, and complementary research laboratory resources.

Chongqing is preparing to build a trillion-dollar ICV industry, and the disciplines of Chongqing Jiaotong University have a deep involvement in related areas such as transportation, information, artificial intelligence, economics, and management.

Chu Wenbo, the president of WICV, believes that Chongqing Jiaotong University's advantages in intelligent cities and transportation are highly compatible with ICV practices. He also sees potential in areas such as urban planning and new energy vehicles, which promote modern city development.

Both sides will cooperate in personnel training, scientific research, technology R&D, and industrial implementation, leveraging the advantages of the university and WICV. For instance, they will launch a joint training program for students that provides training and employment recommendations.
