Finland's Accession to NATO Poses National Security Threat to Russia: Kremlin

By Xinhua|Apr 06,2023

Moscow - Russian media reported on Wednesday that Russia considers Finland's membership in NATO as an additional threat to its national security. Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov remarked that Finland's membership does not contribute to the stability and security of the European continent.

He stated that it "obliges us to take necessary measures to rebalance the entire security system."

While it is too early to discuss countermeasures, Peskov assured that Russia would do everything in its power to ensure its security.

On Tuesday, Finland officially became the 31st member of NATO. At a ceremony commemorating the occasion, Finnish President Sauli Niinisto announced that the era of military non-alignment in the country's history has ended.
