Chongqing - As a key manufacturing base in China and a city striving to establish itself as a design hub, Chongqing is leveraging industrial design to drive collaborative innovation in the industry.

“As industrialization accelerates, industrial design is proving to be a valuable asset and a catalyst for industrial innovation,” said an official with the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology.

Today, design, technology, and business are major factors driving innovation. From demand to supply, industrial design has become a critical link in reconstructing the supply chain, innovation chain, and value chain, promoting the high-quality development of the manufacturing industry.

Industrial design advances enterprises’ competitiveness

“Developing industrial design can not only promote innovation and competitiveness of manufacturing enterprises, but it also plays a vital role in driving enterprises towards internationalization and advancing economic growth,” said the person in charge of the Chongqing Industrial Design Alliance.

In fact, many enterprises in Chongqing have already benefited from industrial design.

Changan Automobile, a giant automaker in Chongqing, applies industrial design to its new energy models, including exterior design, interior decoration, and performance configurations, which are favored by consumers and have resulted in increasing orders.

Yuelai International Convention and Exhibition City, a key hub located in Chongqing Liangjiang New Area, has gathered design companies that integrate with the industrial chain to form four segments, including design innovation incubation, design talent training, design exhibition, and design trade and service. 

Big data intelligence boosts the efficiency of industrial design 

The application of big data intelligence advances the efficiency of industrial design development.

“The tide of big data intelligence provides great opportunities for our city to develop the industrial design, which will accelerate industrial development,” said an official with the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology. Chongqing devotes to the integrated development of industrial design and big data intelligence in pursuit of updating the real economy.

For example, Chongqing Artop Yuli Technology Co., Ltd., the first authorized national-level industrial design center in Chongqing, by virtue of its big data intelligence, has reached cooperation with many Chongqing enterprises to provide complete design solutions in recent years. 

As introduced by the head of Artop Yuli, new technologies like big data, AI, and VR have not only guided the route for industrial design but also brought larger market space.

Fostering a number of national-level design centers

Chongqing has become a hub for industrial design, with a number of national-level design centers enabling renowned industrial design companies to settle down and form service innovation platforms with internet+industrial design.

According to a spokesperson from the Chongqing Industrial Design Alliance, industrial design not only promotes innovation and competitiveness for manufacturing enterprises but also plays a crucial role in driving enterprises toward internationalization and advancing economic growth. Many Chongqing enterprises have benefited from industrial design, including Changan Automobile, which applies industrial design to its new energy models, resulting in increased orders and consumer popularity.

Yuelai International Convention and Exhibition City, located in Chongqing Liangjiang New Area, has gathered design companies that integrate industrial design with the industrial chain, forming four segments, including design innovation incubation, design talent training, design exhibition, and design trade and service.

Currently, there are over 5,000 people engaged in the industrial design field in Chongqing, with over 1,000 design projects increasing annually and reaching an output value of 10 billion yuan. With industry layout and policy-making efforts, Chongqing has established ten national-level and 101 municipal-level industrial design centers. Additionally, 22 national-level industrial design centers and one national-level industrial design institute have set up branches in Chongqing.

Chongqing aims to establish above one national-level digitization and intelligence industrial design demonstration platform or park, foster above ten municipal-level centers featured with digitization and intelligence, release 100 demonstration projects on digital and intelligence products design, and bring in and cultivate 1,000 intelligence design talents by 2025.
