According to Ren Jing, director of Chongqing Library, the branch library in the Maylook Eye Hospital aims to make patients, readers, and employees feel a sense of happiness through reading.
“Our hospital focuses on the prevention and control of myopia for teenagers,” said Fu Guanjun, board chairman of Maylook Eye Hospital. “Many teenagers’ eyesight has been impaired due to long-time contact with electric screens. We established the library to enable patients to read books everywhere in the hospital instead of staring at the screen.”
“Without the interruption of electric screens, patients can feel the calmness and accomplishment of reading,” he added.
The library is home to above 10,000 books covering social and natural sciences, classified with children’s picture books, literature, art, education, economy, and computer science. All the books are free to the public. Additionally, the library will introduce activities like public lectures, exhibitions, and saloons.
The branch library also sets up open stack reading rooms respectively on three floors, providing personalized and humanized service of drinking water supply, air cooling, sofas, sockets, and network coverage.
