Yangtze River Port Witnessed Cargo Delivered to Over 300 Ports Worldwide

By Dai Yuan |May 10,2023

Chongqing - Guoyuan Port, the largest port on the upper reaches of the Yangtze River and located in Chongqing Liangjiang New Area, has developed into an important multi-mode transport hub in China.

Statistics reveal that the cargo throughout Guoyuan Port reached 6.19 million tons in the first quarter, up 9.9% year-on-year, while the container throughout reached 231 thousand Twenty-foot Equivalent Units, up 16.4% year-on-year.

“Guoyuan Port had a good start for this year,” said Qu Hong, vice general manager of Chongqing Port Co., Ltd.

From a small bulk cargo terminal to the largest water-rail-road multimodal transport hub port on China’s inland rivers, Guoyuan Port has actively promoted the construction of water transportation port functions and international logistics channels over the past ten years.

It has gradually become the gateway of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle and the transfer station connecting the upper reaches of the Yangtze River to the world.

Through cooperating with China Railway Chengdu Group Co., Ltd., Guoyuan Port establishes a water-rail multimodal transport interconnection platform, having realized the sharing of train information and goods in transit and port information.

Guoyuan Port also connects with ports such as Qinzhou Port in Guangxi. It establishes a cross-regional customs clearance and inspection mechanism and opens the Shanghai-Chongqing direct express line, reducing the transportation time from Chongqing to Shanghai by nearly one-third.

Relying on Guoyuan Port, Chongqing is becoming the largest automobile multimodal distribution center in Southwest China.

In March, a train of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor (ILSTC), loaded with tens of Seres new energy vehicles, departed from Guoyuan Port.

“The cargo will be shipped to Europe after arriving at Qinzhou Port. This has greatly saved the transport time and operation cost for us,” said Zhang Xingyan, the general manager of the Overseas Business Department of Seres Group. He explained that exporting cars to Indonesia takes about 30 days to rely on traditional transportation while passing through the ILSTC only takes 18 days.

Today, Guoyuan Port has developed a new logistics pattern: shipping directly to the Pacific Ocean eastward through the Yangtze River, reaching Central Asia, Europe, and other regions westward through China Railway Express, connecting to the Indian Ocean southward through the ILSTC, and connecting to Mongolia, Russia, and other countries northward through the China-Mongolia-Russia Economic Corridor. The cargo can be quickly delivered to over 300 ports in over 100 countries and regions worldwide.
