May 18 marks the 47th International Museum Day. According to Xing Jun, Deputy Director-General of the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism Development, the theme of "Museums, Sustainability and Well-being" stresses the positive role of museums in promoting sustainable social development and building a better life.
The "International Museum Day" Sichuan-Chongqing main venue activities will display new achievements in the development of museums in Sichuan and Chongqing, as well as the positive contributions made by museums to the overall economic and social development.
The 14th Chongqing Cultural Heritage Publicity Month will be launched simultaneously, together with the annual meeting of the Sichuan-Chongqing Museum Alliance. In 2022, 12 museums in Sichuan and Chongqing, including the Sichuan Museum and the Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum, jointly established the Sichuan-Chongqing Museum Alliance. Its 63 member institutions have carried out in-depth exchanges and cooperation in personnel training, academic research, cultural relic protection, exhibition and display, education and communication, development of cultural and creative products, and other areas. This year's annual meeting will determine the list of 35 new alliance members, including a handover ceremony for the new alliance leadership and a forum for alliance members.
A special exhibition called "Predestined March: Jade and Gold" will be staged. Under the guidance of the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism Development (Chongqing Bureau of Cultural Relics) and Sichuan Provincial Cultural Heritage Administration, selected jade, gold, and silver relics from 16 museums and institutes of cultural relics and archaeology in Sichuan and Chongqing will be on display to embody the rich historical and cultural resources of the Yangtze River Basin, and reveal the profound cultural connotation of Sichuan and Chongqing. Among them, 127 jade, gold, and silver relics will be exhibited in Chongqing for the first time, including the gold mask of the Shang Dynasty collected by the Sanxingdui Museum in Guanghan, Sichuan.
Moreover, the 3rd "Mountains and Rivers in Bashu" Cultural and Creative Products Exhibition of Sichuan and Chongqing Museums will kick off during this period. Centering on the co-construction of China's cultural and creative industry base, the cultural and creative products of 35 museums in Sichuan and Chongqing will be on display at Changshou Museum for five days. The exhibition also has special exhibition areas of "Three Gorges Cultural and Creative Industry Alliance" and "Sichuan Alliances of Museums, Cultural Relic Institutes, Cultural and Creative Industries" to better showcase the cooperation and exchanges of the Sichuan-Chongqing Museum Alliance.
In the meantime, museums and cultural relic institutes in Chongqing will carry out more than 270 activities in 12 sections, including special exhibitions, mobile museums, museum and cultural relic classes, and visits to archaeological sites to meet people's multi-level and diversified needs for a better life through the combination of online and offline approaches.
