Chongqing -  With a contracted investment amount of 1,664.14 billion yuan (about 237.79 billion U.S. dollars), 945 projects were signed in the past four sessions of the Western China International Fair for Investment and Trade (WCIFIT), according to the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Commerce. 

The investment projects involve many sectors, boosting the city's high-quality development. 

For example, Yipin Fresh, a 24-hour superstore well-known to Chongqing residents, signed a contract at the first WCIFIT to invest 50 million U.S. dollars in the city, improving consumer goods quality. 

Last year, Yipin Fresh increased its investment in Chongqing with an additional amount of 200 million U.S. dollars. Today, the superstore has opened more than 260 stores in Chongqing, accounting for nearly 1/5 of all stores nationwide. 

Another example is to help Chongqing's industrial transformation and upgrading. Located in the Western (Chongqing) Science City, the industry-renowned United Microelectronics Center was a key project signed at the first WCIFIT. 

The project laid out four major areas of silicon-based optoelectronics, intelligent sensing, special processes, and advanced packaging of microsystems, aiming to build an international first-class integrated circuit research and development (R&D) center.

Similarly, the leading new energy company Ganfeng Lithium signed a contract with Chongqing Municipal People's Government to set up the Ganfeng lithium project in Liangjiang New Area. 

Ganfeng Lithium plans to build about 10-GWh lithium battery production and manufacturing base in Chongqing, supporting technical updates and product iterations of solid-state batteries.

The relevant person in charge of the Liangjiang New Area said, the power battery is the core component of new energy electric vehicles nowadays. After implementing the project, it will trigger the development of intelligent networked new energy vehicles in Chongqing.

The Fifth WCIFIT is scheduled in Chongqing from May 18 to 21. Undoubtedly, this year will also see many projects signed to promote the city's development, said an official of the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Commerce.
