Forging Stronger Bonds: Showcasing the Progress of Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle at WCIFIT

By ZHENG KANG|May 19,2023

On May 18, the Fifth Western China International Fair for Investment and Trade (WCIFIT) commenced in Chongqing.

Spanning an exhibition scale of 180,000 square meters across 13 pavilions, the WCIFIT includes the N5 Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle Construction Pavilion with an impressive booth area of about 5,000 square meters. This pavilion serves as a platform to showcase the latest achievements of Chengdu-Chongqing cooperation and the vital nodal cities within the economic circle.

The Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle Pavilion specifically highlights the interconnectivity and interoperability of infrastructure, collaborative efforts in industrial development, joint construction and sharing of public services, coordinated ecological and environmental protection, advancements in reform and opening up, as well as urban and rural development in the Chengdu-Chongqing region in Southwest China.

In contrast to previous years, this year's Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle Pavilion exhibits an intriguing addition of prefixes to the names of district and county venues. This modification aims to highlight each district and county's distinctive advantages and functions within the area.

For instance, Yuzhong District in Chongqing is "the leading district of modern service industry in Chengdu and Chongqing," showcasing its strengths in finance, commerce, professional services, internet information, cultural tourism, and healthcare. Similarly, Pengshui Miao and Tujia Autonomous County in Chongqing is known as "the supplier of ecological green products in Chengdu and Chongqing," emphasizing its remarkable green ecological industry.

Furthermore, Chongqing Rongchang District is designated as "Chongqing Electronic Circuit Industrial Park in Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle," while Chongqing Dadukou District is recognized as the "Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle Industrial Transformation and Upgrading Demonstration Zone."

On the eve of the WCIFIT's opening, Guang'an in Sichuan Province successfully signed 19 projects encompassing equipment manufacturing, biomedicine, electronic information, and food and beverage sectors. These projects collectively represent an agreed capital investment of RMB 13.52 billion.

As the closest prefecture-level city in Sichuan to the heart of Chongqing, Guang'an leverages the WCIFIT as a pivotal platform for attracting investments and showcasing its development achievements.

Luzhou, another crucial node city in the southern wing of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle, has actively participated in the WCIFIT for four consecutive years. Li Fuqiang, head of the conference and exhibition section at the Luzhou Expo Development Center, affirms the city's commitment to utilizing WCIFIT as an avenue for opening up and cooperation. Such efforts lay a solid foundation for Luzhou to integrate into the development of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle seamlessly.

Duan Yijun, vice governor of the People's Government of Sichuan Province, emphasized that Sichuan and Chongqing have long been interconnected, united by mountains, rivers, and a shared cultural heritage during the 2023 CCI-ILSTC International Cooperation Forum.

Moving forward, Chengdu and Chongqing are poised to capitalize on  WCIFIT as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation, unlock collaboration potential, and facilitate the implementation of projects in various fields, such as modern industry, scientific and technological innovation, and ecological protection.
