Chongqing - On May 20th, the "2023 Global Natural History Day (GNHD) Chongqing Division Preliminaries" concluded at the Chongqing Natural Museum. The teams advancing from the preselection will qualify to participate in the Chongqing Division Finals, held at the Chongqing Natural Museum on June 17th. The finalists from this event will then proceed to compete in the global finals.

The event attracted more than 597 teams from over 40 schools and educational institutions, including renowned establishments such as Nankai Middle School, High School Affiliated with Southwest University, Chaoyang Middle School, and Nanyu Middle School.

The participating teams comprised 102 exhibition groups, 16 performance groups, 267 science popularization painting groups, 173 storytelling groups, and 39 scientific demonstration groups. With over a thousand participants, the event provided a magnificent showcase of natural science knowledge and intellectual stimulation.

The preliminary round featured a distinguished panel of 21 experts from various fields, including culture, education, and society, who meticulously evaluated the on-site exhibition and performance works and provided their professional opinions. 

The participants showcased their creativity in the exhibition area, presenting a diverse array of exhibition works with distinct themes. The judges were captivated by the compelling performances and vivid and engaging design concepts in the performance area. The competition took place in both the new and old venues of the Chongqing Natural Museum.

Global Natural History Day® (GNHD®) is an international education program that inspires elementary and middle school students' interest in natural science and history.

Since its launch in 2012, the GNHD® Chongqing Division has held 11 events, with nearly a million teachers and students participating. The event includes exhibition and performance categories reflecting comprehensive abilities and other categories such as scientific demonstrations, popularization, painting, and storytelling showcasing specific skills.

The annual theme is specifically for the comprehensive abilities category (exhibition and performance), which allows participants to communicate and exchange ideas within a defined scope. The theme for the year 2023 is "Seeing small things – Nature's small perspective and big vision." Participating teams can choose the "exhibition" or "performance" format and independently create and design their projects or perform their creative arrangements.
