Chongqing - Building the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle represents a critical strategic approach to enhance China's modernization in the western region, according to Yuan Jiajun, Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Chongqing Municipal Committee. He articulated this view at the results conference of the 7th meeting of the Chongqing-Sichuan party and government joint conference on the economic circle, held on June 26th.
Yuan stressed the importance of integration and high-quality development as twin pillars to promote the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle's construction.
The plan for the latter half of the year entails crucial cooperative tasks. It focuses on augmenting coordination in planning policies, infrastructure construction, industrial development, technological innovation, ecological environment preservation, regional opening, and public services.
Wang Xiaohui, Secretary of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee, asserted that Sichuan would join forces with Chongqing to boost the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle's accelerated development in five critical aspects.
Firstly, prioritizing cooperation platforms in border regions. This strategy encompasses policy recognition, integrated planning, facility interconnection, industrial collaboration, park construction, environmental governance, and shared interests. It supports the cooperation between Tianfu New Area and Liangjiang New Area, facilitating the deepening of strategic cooperation between key platforms.
Secondly, promoting comprehensive interconnection. While efforts will be expedited to construct several transportation infrastructure projects, they will also strive to deepen the Sichuan-Chongqing Administrative Service Center and implement online, immediate, and remote handling.
Thirdly, enhancing the construction of a modern industrial system. This is achieved by coordinating industry transformation and upgrade, revitalizing the service industry, and augmenting agricultural quality and efficiency. Chengdu and Chongqing aim to establish world-class advanced manufacturing clusters in electronic information, automobiles, and other industries, ensuring national economic and industrial security.
Fourthly, fostering regional collaborative innovation capabilities, with the Chengdu-Chongqing Comprehensive Science Center, the Western (Chongqing) Science City, and the Mianyang Science and Technology City as catalysts. They plan to deeply integrate production, education, research, and application in scientific and technological innovation.
Fifthly, refining the cooperation mechanism. Both regions will refine the process of promoting key tasks and better handle the critical tasks of pioneering institutional innovation and exploring innovative paths.
Huang Qiang, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and Governor of the People's Government of Sichuan Province affirmed that Sichuan and Chongqing have made considerable progress in bolstering cooperation in the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle's construction.
Huang highlighted that over 100 policy documents have been collaboratively issued. These include measures for establishing a comprehensive three-dimensional national transportation hub, an essential gathering spot for advanced manufacturing, a technological innovation center, expanding new spaces for open cooperation, a service platform facilitating urbanization, and an ecological safeguard in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River.
Hu Henghua, Mayor of the Chongqing Municipal People's Government, emphasized that as they construct a fresh pattern of cooperation between Sichuan and Chongqing, the Chengdu-Chongqing region is hastening the development of an international comprehensive transportation hub city, with a focus on building a modern industrial system, the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, and a digital Chongqing. Concurrently, they are striving to establish a beacon of reform and opening up in the inland areas.
