FIDE Women's World Championship Match in Chongqing to Open on July 14th

The 2023 FIDE Women's World Championship Match will be held from July 3rd to 25th in both Shanghai and Chongqing. The opening ceremony will be held in Shanghai on July 4th, followed by the Chongqing leg of the match from July 14th to 25th in Changshou District.

As the most prestigious individual official A-class event for women organized by the World Chess Federation (FIDE),  the match represents the highest level of competition in women's chess worldwide. This tournament features two participants: the winner of the 2022-2023 FIDE Women's World Championship Candidates Tournament, Chongqing chess player Lei Tingjie, and the current Women's World Chess Champion, Shanghai's Ju Wenjun. The two players will engage in a 12-game classical chess battle to compete for the new Women's World Chess Champion title and the coveted title of "World Chess Queen."

In recent years, the Changshou District has accelerated the development of a sports powerhouse and has hosted various sports events such as the Changshou Lake Half Marathon and the "Four Major Brand Events." It has also successfully organized top-level international and domestic competitions, including the China-Hungary 70th Anniversary Canoeing Invitational and the National Go League. Its diverse range of sports activities has attracted numerous visitors from all over.

"To ensure the successful hosting of this event, we have made thorough preparations in five aspects: systematic planning and deployment, refining work plans, optimizing the competition venue, strengthening foreign affairs reception, and providing logistical support," said an official from the Changshou District. As the host of the 2023 FIDE Women's World Championship Match, Changshou District will strive to showcase the splendid charm of Chongqing and the allure of Changshou to the world.

The representative from the Chongqing Sports Bureau stated that chess, as a globally recognized intellectual sport, is one of the most popular and widely participated in board games. This championship will not only promote the popularization and development of chess and intellectual sports in Chongqing but also enhance its international influence, contribute to high-quality development, create a high-quality lifestyle, and add color to the construction of the new Chongqing.
