Chengkou Chinese Bacon Marks First Self-Managed Export

By YUTING CHEN|Jul 14,2023

Chongqing - Chengkou Chinese Bacon, a product of Chongqing Home Kitchen Food Co., Ltd., has reached a milestone with its first self-managed export, shipped to Hong Kong on July 12.

Chengkou County, located in northeastern Chongqing, is one of two principal regions in China recognized for its natural selenium-rich lands. It has been designated as the "Hometown of China's Natural Selenium-rich Agricultural Products." Chengkou's eco-friendly, high-altitude pigs are nurtured in high-altitude zones and sustained with natural selenium-rich feed. With a rearing cycle exceeding 300 days, these pigs provide superior raw materials for Chengkou Chinese Bacon.

"Chinese Bacon boasts a history spanning more than 2,500 years, and its production process is recognized as part of Chongqing Municipality's intangible cultural heritage," remarked Chen Liangfeng, head of the Chengkou County Commission of Commerce. "We are making significant efforts to promote Chengkou Chinese Bacon abroad."

Actively promoting the exports of local specialty agricultural products

Chongqing Home Kitchen Food Co., Ltd.'s Wang Haiming said, "Chengkou Chinese Bacon was seamlessly exported to Hong Kong, thanks to the vital support from Chongqing Customs District. They played a pivotal role in streamlining enterprise registration, conducting local inspections, and ensuring rigorous inspection and quarantine procedures."

To advance the development of the Chengkou Chinese Bacon industry, Wanzhou Customs has conducted on-site investigations and guided enterprises to fast-track the acquisition of export qualifications. They have identified local specialty industries as key projects to propel Chengkou's foreign trade development, continually enhancing the branding of characteristic industries and facilitating smoother foreign trade routes.

"This is another local specialty heading overseas, following the self-managed export of Chengkou mushrooms," shared Wu Jian, Director of Wanzhou Customs. "We will maintain our focus on local characteristic industries such as Jiming Gong tea, lacquer, and morel mushroom. Our goal is to continually optimize the port's business environment, promote the expansion of local specialty agricultural products for export, and contribute to rural revitalization."

Chongqing Customs District is committed to further bolstering research, guidance, and day-to-day supervision of export enterprises specializing in agricultural food products. They are actively assisting enterprises in exploring international markets, serving the development of export-oriented economies in Chengkou and other districts and counties, and encouraging more Chongqing specialty agricultural products to reach global markets.
