On July 9, the section “How to Prolong the Survival and Improve the Quality of Life for Patients with Pancreatic Tumor” of The Fifth Yangtze International Summit of Minimally Invasive and Noninvasive Medicine & 2023 “Belt and Road” Innovation Forum on Minimally Invasive and Noninvasive Medicine was held successfully.

This section was co-chaired by Dr. Zhou Kun, Deputy Director of the HIFU Therapeutic Section, Second Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, and Dr. Fan Xigang, Chief Physician, Department of Oncology, Deyang People's Hospital. In “How to Prolong the Survival and Improve the Quality of Life for Patients with Pancreatic Tumor,” three eminent experts gave excellent lectures. They discussed the latest treatment options for pancreatic cancer, how to choose between different surgical options for patients with different conditions of pancreatic cancer, and what to do for inoperable pancreatic cancer.

Kim Tae Hee, Director of HICARE and the HIFU Center in Seoul, Korea, lectured on "Modulating therapeutic environment (CEUS & mechanical compression)." The therapeutic principle of HIFU and its effectiveness in clinical applications are described.

Yang Wuwei, Chief Physician, Fifth Medical Center, PLA General Hospital, presented a “Clinical study of focused ultrasound ablation combined with PD-1 monoclonal antibody for advanced pancreatic cancer.” FUAS for pancreatic cancer can be summarized as non-invasive, low cost, repeatable, easy to combine, short cycle time, and fast recovery. A comprehensive treatment strategy combining prolonged OS and PFS with ablative therapy techniques such as HIFU is significant. Relieve cancer pain: Celiac plexus lesions can increase the remission rate and prolong the remission time. FUA combined with PD-1 monoclonal antibody in the treatment of advanced stage: preliminary observation indicates specific trends requiring further in-depth study.

David Lasso, Cancer Research Center CIOSAD of Colombia, shared a lecture on "The role of HIFU in oncology: experience from an oncology center in Colombia." Focused ultrasound ablation is a proven technology that provides a safe and effective new treatment option for local patients with benign and malignant tumors. It also fills in the gaps for the untreatable areas of the existing standard treatment options, improving the effectiveness and safety of the comprehensive treatment of malignant tumors.

Xu Yonghua, Director of the Radiology Department, Director of the Imaging Intervention Department of Xuhui Hospital, Zhongshan Hospital, Affiliated with Fudan University, shared “Explore of focused ultrasound ablation strategy in the treatment of pancreatic cancer” Pancreatic cancer is a malignant tumor of the digestive tract that is highly malignant and difficult to diagnose and treat. In focused ultrasound ablation surgery, ultrasound can penetrate human tissues non-invasively and focus on tumors inside the body, creating a high temperature of 60-100°C, which could directly kill tumors, including those encircled by blood vessels. It is a localized treatment with proven efficacy for pancreatic cancer, and at the same time, it is a better treatment with minor physical and mental interference to the patient.
