By CHANG CHEN|Jul 14,2023

Chongqing - On July 8, the Academician Forum took place. It was a key segment of both the Fifth Yangtze International Summit of Minimally Invasive and Noninvasive Medicine and the 2023 Belt and Road Innovation Forum on the same subject.

The forum was co-chaired by Wang Zhibiao, Director of the State Key Laboratory of Ultrasound Medical Engineering, and retired professor Huang Huxin of the University of New South Wales. Guest speakers included Yang Huanming, an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and Lang Jinghe, an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

Academician Yang Huanming articulated that the emergence of DNA and the Human Genome Project (HGP) has ignited two revolutions in life science. The fusion of physics and precision medicine has given birth to micro-non-invasive medicine and pathology, which may be considered the third revolution. As we stand on the shoulders of giants, treading the path they've paved, we find ourselves amid various advancements like DNA, RNA, proteomes, life groups, health groups, and precision medicine. Moving in the right direction, he said, with minimally invasive and noninvasive pathology playing crucial roles, we can confidently assert that the future of medicine lies in minimally invasive and noninvasive treatments, with High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) standing as a representative therapy.

Academician Lang Jinghe offered insights from three philosophical perspectives regarding medical knowledge: epistemology — understanding the limits of knowledge; the unique value of medical practice — recognizing the risks associated with the practice; and the right path for medical development — humanistic considerations in contradiction. He emphasized that by grasping the essence of medicine, we can truly enhance our professional spirit, wisdom, insight, and ability, thereby finding the most suitable treatment plan for each patient. He added that focused ultrasound ablation technology minimizes surgical injury and provides an additional option for patients.
