Over 1000 Global Teams Compete in Chongqing Eco-Friendly Solutions

Chongqing- Chinese cities, along with Chongqing, London, Tokyo, and Mexico City, stand as focal points for innovative endeavors in the 2023 BIEA Youth STEM Competition, a pioneering event by the British International Education Association (BIEA).

The competition has gained coverage from major UK media outlets like The Guardian, The Sun, Daily Express, Daily Mail, and Mirror, all of which emphasized Chongqing's unwavering dedication to ecological preservation.

With an overwhelming response of 1,007 teams from 23 different nations and regions, the 2023 BIEA Youth STEM Competition zeroes in on Chongqing, China, as its prime center for eco-friendly innovation.

This year's contest theme is "Developing Solutions for Sustainable Cities!" and the competition emphasizes the urgent need to tackle urban sustainability challenges. The competition is a collaborative effort between iChongqing and BIEA, introducing the "Chongqing Focus" initiative. 

The "Chongqing Focus" initiative encourages teams worldwide to tackle real-world challenges in Chongqing's residential, transportation, and urban planning and bring innovative solutions grounded in scientific research. 

During the competition, Chongqing experts provided invaluable insights into the city's intricate domains to enrich the participants' understanding, including Yang Yongchuan, a professor at the College of Environment and Ecology, Chongqing University, and Fu Yan, deputy chief engineer of the Chongqing Transportation Planning and Research Institute, and Bill Huang, Vice President of TY. Lin International.

Victors of  "Chongqing Focus" Initiative to be unveiled in London

Preliminary data shows many participants from China, Britain, the United States, France, Nigeria, the United Arab Emirates, South Africa, Australia, and the Bahamas. 

Within this diverse mix, 388 individual entrants and 619 groups are competing. The age range of the contestants predominantly lies between 14 to 19 years, representing a whopping 372 schools. 

A special mention goes to 21 Chongqing-based schools, including Chongqing No.2 Foreign Language School and Chongqing First Experimental Middle School, among others. These schools add to the competition's dynamic global representation and present a unique perspective on Chongqing's journey toward becoming a sustainable city.

In a grand finale scheduled for September, the "Chongqing Focus" will see its contenders showcasing their innovative projects in Chongqing. An esteemed panel of international experts will rigorously evaluate these projects. The victors will be unveiled in London, where the BIEA Youth STEM competition's organizing committee will host a grand award ceremony.
