Mobile Courts Integrates Technology Revolutionizing Accessibility to the Legal System

By ZHAN CHEN|Aug 20,2023

Chongqing - From Chongqing's quiet villages to its bustling streets, a novel approach to justice has taken root: vehicle-mounted convenience courts. These mobile legal hubs, housed within unassuming white vans, are revolutionizing accessibility to the legal system.

Thanks to the integration of 5G and AI, these mobile courts bring more services closer to the people. Filing cases and participating in intelligent court trials have never been easier, diminishing the barriers of distance and complexity.

Since 2022, over 7,200 rounds of trials and legal activities have been conducted by mobile courts, benefiting more than 500,000 people through on-site explanations and consultations.

Instant voice transcription throughout trial proceedings

The vehicle-mounted convenience court offers self-service intelligent litigation options and in-person guided litigation assistance, which covers a series of services, including case registration, payment, inquiry, evidence submission, online reviews, and electronic delivery.

One of its standout features is the instant printing of judgments and rulings, eradicating the need for litigants and judges to engage in repetitive journeys.

This innovative solution not only simplifies public access to legal services but also significantly heightens trial efficiency for judges. Notably, the mobile court introduces a remarkable feature, the instant conversion of spoken statements from all parties into written transcripts, showcased prominently on a large screen.

Remarkably, this voice transcription function attains an impressive accuracy rate of up to 90% for both Mandarin and the local Chongqing dialect. Requiring only minimal proofreading and minor clerk adjustments, this innovation effectively saves considerable time throughout trial proceedings.

Helping the elderly with accessible and informed justice

Promoting accessible justice remains a central goal for judges embracing mobile courts. In a notable instance, a support case for an elderly man exemplifies this approach.

Considering the mobility challenges of the elderly, the judge opted for a vehicle-mounted convenience court to conduct the hearing right at the nursing home.

Before the trial commenced, a video informing the elderly on legal matters was displayed on the court's large screen. This educational video is part of a proactive effort to promote legal understanding among the elderly community.

Court personnel now take the initiative to engage with the public, spreading legal awareness and engaging in community-oriented legal work.
