Creating the "Wulong Model" for green development

The Wulong District has steadfastly upheld the dual principles of development and ecology in recent years. It has continuously transformed the "lush mountains and clear waters" concept into a path toward sustainable prosperity.

The district has earned titles such as "Practical Innovation Base for Turning Lush Mountains and Clear Waters into Gold and Silver," "National Ecological Civilization Construction Demonstration Area," and the "United Nations Sustainable Development Urban Exemplar Award." These recognitions showcase the profound foundation and strong momentum of Wulong's natural beauty and highlight valuable experiences and fruitful achievements in exploring innovative paths for ecological civilization construction.

He Qing, Secretary of the CPC Wulong District Committee, said that Wulong's journey toward greener development vividly reflects the accomplishments of building a beautiful China. Wulong is striving to become the "main hub of culture and tourism" in the Chongqing-Chengdu economic circle. The district aims to set an example of shared prosperity driven by tourism and to become a high-quality living demonstration area that brings tangible benefits to the people.

Leveraging the forum's brand effect

To explore better ways of promoting the concept that "lush mountains and clear waters are invaluable assets" and to accelerate further the transformation of industries towards green practices that align with sustainable lifestyles, the forum invited four experts and scholars from the green ecological development sector to deliver keynote speeches.

In a bid to delve into the development prospects and necessity of green ecological industries, Academician Wang Jinnan focused his speech on the direction of green and low-carbon industrial development under the "carbon neutrality" goal. He mentioned that by 2050, China's investment in green energy transition industries is expected to exceed 15 trillion yuan. This includes electrification and smart grids, photovoltaic and wind energy generation, hydrogen energy, and CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage), which will likely be priority development sectors for achieving global and Chinese carbon neutrality.
