Chongqing's Supervision Sites Greenlit for Broadened Premium Imports

By ZHAN CHEN|Sep 04,2023

Chongqing - Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport and Chongqing Railway Port's designated supervision sites for imported meat and aquatic products were recently approved by the General Administration of Customs.

Once operational, these sites will streamline the import process, cutting both time and logistics costs and enabling Chongqing residents to enjoy high-quality products from a broader range of countries.

Customs-designated supervision sites are specialized areas that conform to customs standards, focusing on preventing animal and plant diseases and overseeing the inspection and quarantine of high-risk imported animals, plants, and their products.

Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport unveiled its new supervision site for imported meat and chilled aquatic products. Situated within the airport's customs zone, this facility occupies 1,890㎡ with a storage capacity of 2,240m³. This includes 94㎡ each for freezing and refrigeration and 372㎡ for inspection activities.

Similarly, Chongqing Railway Port has introduced a designated supervision site for imported meat. This expansive area covers 38,000㎡ with a storage capability of 1,743m³. The designated spaces include 1,124㎡ for freezing, 392㎡ for refrigeration, and 890㎡ for inspection procedures.

These supervision sites are optimized for inspection, sampling, and storage processes, ensuring efficient handling of imported products.

"As consumption patterns evolve and demand surges, the appetite of urban and rural consumers for top-tier overseas products has grown substantially," said a Chongqing customs representative.

With the activation of the newly designated supervision sites, Chongqing will now facilitate direct imports of meat and aquatic products, slashing logistical and time expenses.

The yearly volume of imports through these facilities is projected to hit 200,000 tons. Residents can soon expect to savor high-quality goods from a broader array of global sources.

Currently, Chongqing port is an entry point for specialized items like fruits, meat, and grains. Chongqing Customs District plans to augment port functionalities and bolster services like cold chain train operations.

This strategic shift aims to efficiently bring premium goods to the domestic market, stimulating consumption and propelling Chongqing closer to its vision of becoming an international consumption center.
