Chongqing - On September 4, the opening ceremony of the 2023 Smart China Expo (SCE 2023) was held at the Chongqing Yuelai International Convention Center, with annual topics of Intelligent Connected New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) and Digital China.
This year's Expo discusses the revolution of intelligent transportation through enhancements like real-time traffic scheduling, intelligent parking, and the digital management of vehicles. Spanning 12 sub-fields, including power batteries and intelligent cockpits, the Expo also brings together over 310 industrial magnates such as Changan and Seres.
The High-Level Dialogue features executives from Microsoft, IBM, and Tencent, and they delved into the commercial applications of artificial intelligence models in intelligent networks and industry growth. Following the Keynote Speeches, insights were shared by top Chinese academicians and industry leaders from giants like STMicroelectronics, Dassault Systèmes, and Ford.
Edoardo Merli, Executive Vice President of STMicroelectronics, delivered a keynote speech about exploring how semiconductors drive the new engine of the world economy.
"Semiconductors have the potential to disrupt industries and reshape the form of their end products. The importance of semiconductors is evident, as in recent years, these applications have been built on semiconductor technology foundations," said Merli.
He added, "Technologies such as smart mobility, electric vehicles, new energy vehicles, electrification, intelligent connected, autonomous driving, and driver assistance all rely on semiconductors."
Merli also highlighted a recent collaboration with solid support from the Chongqing Municipal People's Government to establish a silicon carbide (SiC) wafer manufacturing facility.
"We have established a silicon carbide wafer manufacturing facility in Chongqing, significantly enhancing global manufacturing capabilities," Merli said. "We now aim to align our SiC solutions more closely with the developments in the automotive industry and other relevant sectors."
Co-hosting the SCE with Singapore this year, Singapore will display its technological prowess with a 1,000-square-meter booth. The country has actively co-sponsored SCE since 2020 and will continue the partnership from 2023 to 2025.
"Singapore holds a leading position in the field of information and communication technology and is actively working to integrate its robust technological ecosystem with the rapid development of Chongqing," said Tan Kiat How, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of National Development & Ministry of Communications and Information, Republic of Singapore.
Tan continued that Chongqing demonstrates significant strength in automotive and battery manufacturing, and they believe that it can create more opportunities and continually expand the development space for intelligent connected new energy vehicles.
"We are committed to collaborating with Chongqing to shape a greener and more sustainable automotive industry in the future," Tan stated.
A total of 509 companies from 31 countries participated in this year's Smart China Expo.
The SCE 2023 saw 84 significant projects signed on September 4, with a formal contract value of 213.86 billion yuan (about USD 29.42 billion). In addition, the SCE 2023 has facilitated the signing of seven foreign investment contracts, with a total contract value of 9.62 billion yuan.
