Chongqing Export Commodities Exhibition in Thailand Finalizes US $50 Million in Agreements

By ZHAN CHEN|Sep 11,2023

Chongqing - Marking a significant milestone, the Chongqing Export Commodities Exhibition recently took place in Bangkok, Thailand. It introduced the "Chongqing Trade with World" brand, representing Chongqing-manufactured goods, to the ASEAN market for the first time.

This year's exhibition showcased a diverse range of products, from motorcycles and their components to smart machinery, agricultural tools, ready-to-eat vegetables, and other farm produce.

Records indicate that China has consistently been Thailand's leading trade partner for the past decade and ascended to its top investor position in 2022.

Trade relations between Chongqing and Thailand are flourishing. In the previous year, trade transactions between the two amounted to 18.5 billion yuan (approximately 2.53 billion U.S. dollars), constituting 15% of Chongqing's total trade with ASEAN countries. Moreover, Chongqing's investments in Thailand reached an impressive 35 million U.S. dollars.

During the exhibition's three-day span, Chongqing enterprises reported multiple positive outcomes. Companies from both countries proactively engaged in commercial dialogues, culminating in trade agreements valued at 50 million U.S. dollars and the establishment of ties with 30 prospective clients.

Running parallel to the exhibition was the Chongqing-Thailand RCEP Economic and Trade Matchmaking Conference. Since the RCEP came into effect, a whopping 39,000 Thai products have reaped the benefits of tariff reductions, with 29,000 enjoying a complete waiver of tariffs.

A Chongqing Municipal Commission of Commerce representative remarked, "As members of the RCEP, China, and Thailand aim to use this event to strengthen mutual trust and understanding among businesses. Our overarching goal is to enhance the economic and trade relationships between Chongqing, Thailand, and the broader ASEAN community."
