Chongqing- "With its strategic location and industrial strengths, Chongqing is ideal for foreign businesses looking to establish regional headquarters," said Ruling Zhang, Chairman and CEO of Sodefinance, at the 17th Annual Meeting of Chongqing Mayor's International Economic Advisory Council (CMIA) on September 21. 

Zhang thinks the city offers technology and opens doors for international collaboration and cross-cultural economic learning.

A good choice for regional headquarters

Zhang thinks Chongqing's potential to attract foreign enterprises for regional headquarters is immense. Highlighting the city's strategic location, industrial strength, and developing opportunities under the Belt and Road initiative, she believes Chongqing has the ingredients to become an international business hub.

"Chongqing's modern manufacturing and information industry are strong, providing a solid foundation for exports and cooperation," she said, citing sectors such as automotive, electromechanical equipment, and aerospace as the city's industrial strongholds.

To establish a globally recognized "Made in Chongqing" brand, Zhang emphasized the significance of research, development, and product competitiveness. Furthermore, the China-Europe freight train (Yuxinou) offers a highly convenient avenue for exporting products abroad. The "Made in Chongqing" brand can gain significant visibility through this. 

Zhang also mentioned the significance of the city's image in shaping the perception of its products abroad. When Chongqing's image is harmoniously integrated with its products, it leaves a more profound impression on international consumers, making it easier to garner their favor.

Sino-French relations in business and culture

2024 holds particular importance for Sino-French relations, marking the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties and the XXXIII Olympics Summer Games in Paris. Zhang suggested that this presents a ripe opportunity for Chongqing to organize promotional events in France, showcasing its business and cultural potential.

She also pointed out that Chongqing could benefit from the Belt and Road Initiative by focusing on emerging markets and developing countries. "Chongqing should open up more channels for foreign trade products to go overseas," she said.

Zhang's dedication to nurturing these exchanges between China and France has been steadfast over the years. As the sole Chinese life member of the Consistori del Gay Saber, the world's oldest poetic academy, which is set to commemorate its 700th anniversary in 2024 with numerous French poetry events, she anticipates witnessing the contributions of Chinese students who have left their mark on this occasion. 

Cooperation in high-quality advertising 

Sodefinance has forged robust business ties in Chongqing, partnering with JCDecaux, the sole international company dedicated to outdoor advertising, and Mersen, a global French company specializing in electrical power and advanced materials. 

Zhang views Chongqing's rail transportation system as a vital lifeline coursing through the city and is enthusiastic about sustaining top-notch advertising endeavors in the region.

Describing Chongqing as "dynamic," "united," and "promising," Zhang acknowledges the city's significant role as an economic engine in Southwest China. 

"The determination and cohesion of all Chongqing people are also pushing the city to make a breakthrough," she said, making it a promising city for future developments.
