Chongqing - "We're committed to introducing Signify's pioneering energy-efficient technology and smart interconnection systems to Chongqing's urban landscape," expressed John Wang, President of North East Asia and Senior Vice President of Signify, during the 17th Annual Meeting of the Chongqing Mayor's International Economic Advisory Council (CMIA) held on September 21.

Being a key figure at the 17th CMIA meeting and leading Signify—formerly Philips Lighting—the vision projected transformed Chongqing into a beacon of energy efficiency and smart urban living.

Envisioning a luminescent yet efficient Chongqing, Wang said, "Our goal is to sculpt a city where lighting energy consumption is restricted to just 10% of the total by 2030." He emphasized that Chongqing's unique nocturnal allure and growing night-time economy will be instrumental in its upcoming phases of development.

Signify's intelligent, interconnected lighting system integrates high-performance LED lighting technology and intelligent management of the Internet of Things, applied in building facades, street lights, Bridges, and tunnels to provide rich and high-quality lighting to create a city's night landscape. At the same time, it can reduce costs and energy consumption and promote sustainable development.

Highlighting the rising tide of low-carbon and digital trade, Wang argued that now is the ripe time for industries to amplify their green endeavors. This is in sync with China's ambitious dual carbon objectives and fosters a blend of the digital with the traditional in the economic realm.

Drawing inspiration from Eindhoven, the birthplace of Philips in the Netherlands, Wang stressed the need for a collective approach towards innovation, where sectors converge their resources to spur ingenious solutions—a process he finds fitting for Chongqing.

Wang advocates for a more inclusive innovation model that intertwines the government, corporate sector, and research entities. This cohesive synergy aims to inject a relentless spirit of innovation into Chongqing's export-centric economic machinery.

Echoing the tenets of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, Wang believes Chongqing's urban blueprint should seamlessly weave green and digital solutions, elevating living standards and spawning a sustainable commercial habitat.

Both Signify and Chongqing are charting a radiant path forward, aiming to remodel urban terrains through smart and sustainable technologies. Through these efforts, Chongqing is positioning itself as a glowing paradigm for cities keen on harmonizing modern advancements with ecological responsibility.
