A rapid charge of 200 kilometers in just 5 minutes

This charging station, located in the expressway service area in Dazu District, Chongqing, features two super-fast chargers adorned with the eye-catching slogan “One Kilometer Per Second,” which Huawei had previously custom-made for this product. The company’s logo is prominently etched onto the charging piles.

“There are two super-fast chargers and eight fast chargers in the station, which will greatly release the charging pressure at our service area,” said a person in charge of Chongqing Expressway Group Co., Ltd.

The super-fast charger boasts a maximum power output of 600 kW, allowing for a rapid charge of 200 kilometers in just 5 minutes, the highest power output currently available in the market. He Bo, President of the Data Center Facility & Critical Power Product Line at Huawei Digital Power, described this as a forward-looking product, emphasizing that fast charging and high power are inevitable trends.

In the first half of this year, Huawei unveiled its next-generation fully liquid-cooled supercharging station structure. In less than six months since the announcement, Huawei has not only expanded its charging station network in eastern coastal provinces but has also made significant moves in western China, including Sichuan and Chongqing regions, drawing considerable attention.

During the Smart China Expo in September, the Jiulongpo District of Chongqing announced its collaboration with Huawei to create the “Super Chargers” brand. This initiative aims to integrate public, dedicated, and personal charging networks within the Chongqing municipality while introducing Huawei’s latest super-fast charging stations.

Supercharging stations along Qinghai-Tibet Plateau route

During the National Day holiday, Huawei made a high-profile announcement regarding the operation of one of its liquid-cooled supercharging stations located along a famous tourist route on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau at an average altitude of 4,000 meters.

Huawei particularly emphasized the safety aspect of its charging stations beyond their speed, highlighting that liquid-cooling technology can effectively reduce heat generated during high-power charging, extending the equipment’s lifespan and enhancing its stability.

Aion Auto, a subsidiary of China’s GAC Group, also possesses an advantage in developing super-fast charging technology. Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd also unveiled a new battery that supports ultra-fast charging in August, which it claimed to be the world’s first 4C super-fast charging lithium iron phosphate, or LFP battery. 4C means that the battery can theoretically be fully charged in 15 minutes.

However, the maximum charging power for electric vehicles on the market generally ranges from 200 kW to 250 kW at present, indicating that, in the short term, the compatibility of super-fast charging technology with electric vehicles remains ahead of its time.
