Connect the World①: Troubleshooting at Chongqing Inland Port

By CHANG CHENYILING WANGJAMES ALEXANDER|Oct 30,2023

Chongqing - The third session of the inter-provincial consultation and cooperation joint meeting on the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor (ILSTC) will take place in Southwest China's Chongqing on November 1.

As a pilot demonstration project of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor (ILSTC), the Chongqing Inland Port is poised to commence operations this year. Zheng Yuanbing, the Director of the Station Operation Department at New Land-Sea Corridor Operation Chongqing Supply Chain Co., Ltd., expresses optimism about the port's role as a seamless conduit for a diverse range of goods, anticipating a boost in both quantity and quality for the Corridor and its surrounding areas.

The Inland Port is a port without water. New Land-Sea Corridor Chongqing Inland Port boasts an impressive expanse encompassing approximately 179,333 square meters, with a substantial investment of approximately USD 82 million. It now facilitates services previously exclusive to seaports, extending them to land transportation. Enterprises can now seamlessly execute cargo space bookings, handle customs clearance, submit inspection applications, and complete other essential procedures right here in Chongqing.

Zheng Yuanbing, chiefly responsible for production safety and equipment management at the Chongqing Inland Port, envisions its transformation into an international shared allocation center for containers. Moreover, the port will feature specialized warehouses dedicated to expediting fruit ripening. Fruits traveling along the Corridor can be stored at the Inland Port and undergo accelerated ripening in response to market demand before being dispatched to various regions.

New Land-Sea Corridor Chongqing Inland Port went through the final acceptance process on June 12, 2023, and it is expected to be implemented this year. Following its completion and commencement of operations, the Chongqing Inland Port will serve as a pivotal hub anchored in Chongqing, benefiting the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle. It will contribute significantly to the growth of western China and enhance connectivity among ASEAN countries. This port is poised to evolve into a modern, international, comprehensive logistics center, seamlessly integrating logistics, trade, data, finance, and various industries. As a result, Chongqing and other western inland regions will gain enhanced global opportunities.
