Chongqing - Recently, the esteemed higher education assessment organization ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects for 2023 was officially released by the academic evaluation institution ShanghaiRanking. Notably, multiple academic disciplines from several Chongqing universities secured positions within the top 100 global subject rankings.

Chongqing University emerged within the 201-300 bracket in the ShanghaiRanking, with a noteworthy presence in 29 disciplines. Eight of these subjects were recognized as prominent disciplines, among which Civil Engineering and Mining Engineering achieved a remarkable global seventh rank.

Similarly, Southwest University showcased a strong academic presence, with 27 disciplines making their mark in the global ranking. Eight subjects claimed spots within the top 200 globally. Specifically, Textile Science & Engineering and Food Science & Engineering secured 11th and 25th positions in the global rankings, respectively.

Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications featured five subjects in the rankings: Communication Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Power Electronics Engineering, Transportation Engineering, and Instrument Science. Notably, Communication Engineering and Transportation Engineering claimed spots among the global top 100, positioning themselves as the leading subjects among Chongqing universities.

Chongqing Technology and Business University demonstrated a competitive edge with three subjects listed. Notably, the fields of Chemical Engineering and Business Management secured positions within the top 300 and top 400 for global subject rankings, respectively. Moreover, the field of Electronic Science & Technology entered the top 500 in the global rankings.

In recent years, Chongqing's academic institutions have consistently enhanced their discipline construction, aligning their focus with the national strategy and the socio-economic development needs of Chongqing. They've persistently advanced adjustments in their academic disciplines, establishing new subject areas catering to emerging technologies, industries, and innovative models.

Specifically, Chongqing has strengthened its fundamental disciplines like Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, emphasizing their significance. Additionally, there's a focus on developing professional degrees, extensive collaboration between academia and industry, and implementing a "dual mentor" system. Efforts to accelerate the establishment of an excellent engineer training system are also underway.

The universities also foster innovative development by integrating agricultural engineering with science, medicine, and humanities. Furthermore, a tailored mechanism offering specific conditions and positions has been implemented in talent development for top-tier talents, ensuring a supportive framework for their growth.

In the 2023 ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, mainland Chinese universities secured top positions in 17 subjects globally. While American universities continue to dominate across various subject rankings, claiming the top spot in 30 subjects, Chinese institutions have shown substantial advancement and competitiveness in the global academic landscape.
